Hi guys, I think my auto 2002 Disco (Diesel) has developed a nasty problem. When driving along a straight road it sometimes slows down from say 70 to 50 mph or like the other day along the North Circular 50 - 20 mph, my foot is static on the accelerator but it still gets confused. It doesn't always happen but so far twice this weekend. Bloody annoying ! Right then what's the process of elimination, any advice ?

Am i right to say thats fly by wire accelerator no cable, if so sounds like the chip or what ever controls it could be messing around

I came here seeking an answer for the same problem for a 98 Disco (not diesel). My speed drop isn't quite so severe - usually just 5 miles as hour and then it kicks back in, slows down again half a minute later, shudders and slows for 10 seconds and then going again. It seems to start about 20 miles into my drive.

Ooh fuel starvation, could be. It was just below a quarter tank, the missus just phoned to let me know that it happened again but this time at a roundabout. Not fun at all. Is there anything I can check for myself before I go to the LR garage ? the two things that come to mind are 1) Torque converter 2) the auto gearbox clutch (possible slipping) and how would I do this ?....this feels expensive !

diesel

start with fule filters, how long since thay have been changed, crap in your tank blocking the in tank screen. drian a bit in a white cup and have a look.

but if a diesel loses power slowly, ie it was driving ok and just loses power. 99% of the time its filters. LOL every aussie knows that, why doint you poms ???

Same thing happened in my 200tdi swb and my 300tdi disco. Just crap in the diesel that made up in the filters. It's happened to me on loads of cars in the past. It's just with running with relatively low fuel levels and maybe dirty fuel with bits suspended in it. I bet that's all it is Swap the filters and you'll be ok im guessing

second point happened to my 300tdi too. was just a sticking (knackered) thermostat. 8 quid or whatever later it was fixed and seemed to run better, but that might have been psychological!
