ok, posted as big matt earlier from work regard for auto box problems after oil change, but this takes the p***, i had known front discs and pads were due for change(hence big matts thread earlier is it easy) but on the way home im braking and all hell brakes lose (excuse pun) abs, hill descent and tc lights all come on, and staying on after restart, is this front disk/pad related. please tell me that once these replaced all will be ok.

losing faith fast,

cheers for asny help

no, not on the wheels but behind them hidden by the brakes
get the wheel off and trace the wires that come down with the brake lines.

Cheers Batt, its in for MOT tomorrow so no time to fix myself ,b*gga. Have new disks and pads so hope garage will pop on and solve problem by accident, we live in hope

it may need to be reset on the computer if the sensors given up. which involves taking it into a main stealer and reluctantly paying them about 80squids to plug a laptop into your motor and press the F7 key!

Im a bit worried that you had all these problems after taking the disco to the garage. If the car was ok before, sounds like they let some kid loose on your car who did not know what they were doing. How well do you know your garage?

Only been to him once before with a power loss problem after a head gasket replacement at another garage, he was honest and a nice bloke who works in a workshop at the back of his house, he gave me the car back last time so bloody powerful it was if the car had never been right, last time.

He did all the oils etc and said he felt the gearbox was lazy, i told him then that it had no probs before this oil change, he mentioned oil was dirty and that the filter in the box may need replacing (£50 odd ) so that the box could ` suck` the oil better (baffles me). I have rang him and he has said bring it back, he says maybe it needs more oil in it although he couldn`t fit anymore in as it was overflowing when he did it.

He also cleaned my intercooler and air manifold as I hadn`t cleaned it when i put the egr on, he says there is evidence of oil all the way round this large pipe, is this related.

Anyone else got any ideas on this one please, don`t fancy towing to Devon next weekend with this playing up, is it torque converter related or just gearbox on way out, pulls a dream, but sometimes just dosn`t feel like its engaging gear from standing in drive position at traffic lights etc

I think battenberg is right that the gearbox may just need a reset because my bmw 540 has a similar problem and just needs the tranny reset but i have not bothered because its fine when driving along its just when its crawling along at low stop start speeds.

Does the disco perform worse/better from cold and have you tried just using 2nd and 3rd gears not the d setting?

Really bad when cold, just doesn`t want to move until reved to 3000rpm. not so bad in 2nd and 3rd, does same in reverse especially when cold

My bmw is terrible when its cold but when it warms up its much better. I seriously doubt your autobox is on the way out could even be just a bad contact that needs a clean.

I would take it back to the garage and get them to have a quick look at the connection on the box. Or take it to transmission specialist who should be able to diagnose the problem and fix it while you wait. Im sure they would just perform a reset.

My bm had the autobox oil changed and it then produced similar problems as yours has, when they plugged the laptop in it showed fault codes as rough gear changes so they performed the reset and it was fine for about 8000 miles and now i have exactly the same symptoms again.

Cheers ROBS, I hope your right, chap that did work has no laptop etc so will take to where I got it from and hopefully for a tenna they will hook it up and tell me. Its going back to chap that did oil so he can recheck the level of oil etc.

Be aware that the data port for OBDii on a Disco 2 works in a different way than most others.

you will need someone with 'Rovercom' or 'TestBook' (a main stealer) to read the computer with their laptop
