You just need a new switch, you can fit it to the existing lock. They aren't expensive.

Have you got 12V between the big terminals on the solenoid and the engine block?
Are the little wires connected a) to the alternator (Brown/Yellow) and b) to the solenoid (White/Red)

Check the wire onto the starter solenoid, it gets cooked by the heat from exhaust manifold and goes "dry connection", usually just wriggle the connector on the top of the starter or unplug it and squeeze it with pliers and push it back on, should restore connection.

Thanks for all the help guys. I’ve just finished cleaning the earthing points and wiggled a few wire around the starter motor etc and it started!! See how long it lasts! Ha

Still sounds like a duff battery to me.

99 times out of 100 it's earth issues.

Yer usually can't beat a bit of wire wiggling after a clean up, as a wiggled wire works well

My vote is on the small wire with the spade connector on the starter motor. Works loose with the result being an intermittent start.
