Did a service on my 1999 dse auto went to screw the fuel filter and it should had two rubber o rings an outer one and one in the centre where the thread is,there was no centre o ring at all not missing just a type with no centre o ring only an outer one I cheated and used the old o ring out of the old filter slipped it on the car centre thread and all was ok as a temporary .

I had bought two sets for both cars that i own one was ok the other was not so just check I haven't phoned them yet

Ok iv just phoned them and they recon the p38 diesel has no centre ring how strange as all the others iv pulled off have had one either way one was wrong,

Surely you have a centre Oring to separate what goes into filter not being sucked into the fip Ie it goes through the filter and out a one way not fill the filter and come out any way as if the centre is not separated from the outer stupid idiots !!!

I have just done mine, it was exactly the same, its not the first filter iv come across like that, it does seem a little unconventional though, as long as the filter is clean, it will be easier to flow through that than force its way through the mated faces

It varies depending on the supplier / pattern. I've had fuel filters both with and without the centre o-ring from Island and my local motor factors. All of them have worked just fine though.

The centre o ring (when there is one) is outside the thread, so I could never really see much point in it on the genuine landy part, as the thread itself should be a good enough seal (same as the oil filter on most cars I've owned)

I'm not to sure of the flow on a fuel filter, the outer ring, if sealed properly would stop any leaks but why is there a centre one to make sure the flow through the filter goes one way?and what comes through the centre of the filter remains filterd and does not contaminate what's already been filterd. As you say oil ones have an outer ring seal only so I assume the oil pump pumps it through the filter and back in the the sump

Thanks I did phone your shop without much success as I explained invoce number 39017,I orderd two kits 97-02 da6029 one fuel filter had a centre o ring the other did not so either way one is wrong which is it to be??

I have stock of 6 Mahle fuel filters and checked none have center o-rings. Last one I got local garage to change because I couldn't be arsed and didnt have any diesel handy to prime it - they sourced an o-ring for it and fitted.
