Is this a T5 LED bulb?

Second 'simple' job this morning was going to be to replace some of the dashboard bulbs which weren't working. I had no idea what would be in there and looking online wasn't much help with various bulbs being advertised for various models; only for TD5, not suitable for TD5 etc. As mine's a bitsa with a later TD5 not terribly helpful! So, I was expecting to find 286's in the smaller instruments and maybe something else in the speedo. Instead I found these in all of them. Not difficult to see why this one had gone phut as the top is practically caving in. There's absolutely nothing on the bulb to indicate what it is other than the red PASS sticker. Is it a T5? I have found the same bulb advertised on eBay.com from, suprise suprise a Chinese seller. They've listed it as a T5 but having searched for other T5's none of them look the same. This has a very definite rounded top and virtually all the other T5's I'm looking at just have a round head and rectangular shaft.

Tbh it is bit of a game with the led bulbs as there are so many varieties out there.
If the pic looks right buy it and try it.
For interior lights I use the flat pcb style t5 as they are brighter, but they will be to long for the dash holes.
Chinese not an issue, just buy a pkt of 5 or 10 and be done with it.

Thanks Lyall, I've never seen so many bulbs categorised by one term and all looking completely different! The one's I've removed frankly look pretty cheaply made but nonetheless I've bought the only replacement set I can find that match them -Ironically the most expensive too! The size is the bit that concerned me as at approx 18mm long these are far longer than any of the others I'm looking at, and the head is almost 10mm diameter and most are barely 5mm. A previous owner must have 'updated' the dash with LED the same time they did all the exterior lights.

Another trick if the bulb is to long is to put an o-ring around the bulb body to stop it going in to far, if you look in the hole you can see the dash lens (green iirc) and if the bulb is to long it can melt the lens bit.

Speedo = T5 509T AKA B8.5D

TD5 All others T5 286

LED or incandescent.

Give the 501's a swerve imo

nope they T10 aka 286 / 501's when using LED are just too big to fit in the hole! U lucky they not melt / catch fire yet!

Wow, thanks for all that info Kissmyaura, I've ordered three different sets of bulbs from that range and will see which ones do the job. Access isn't the easiest, a previous owner seems to have lost most of the securing screws or else the locating lugs have snapped off so at the moment the binacle is only held on with two screws and releasing it it only comes forward about 2.5", so not the best working space given the steering wheel in the middle. It *looks* as though all the bulb holders are the same and as shown in the photo. So thick black rubber cap on the back of the instrument and an end that pulls out with the bulb sat in the end. When the various sets have arrived I'll give them a go. :)
