Bought a RR vogue 2004- was told by garage sat nav cd would follow. Fast forward 5 months and they have sent me a DVD mine is a CD system. Been to LR garage who were as helpful as usual- asked if I could try part no YIW500050 in my unit to see whether unit works- they had one there- but no I had to buy it at £160. Asked if they could check unit- another £150- just to test let alone fix if broken! Found a co who will repair unit if faulty but I need to send the correct CD with the unit. Anyone got one I could try- I would return by special delivery- or any idea where I can get the correct one for a siemens unit YIB500040 to enable me to get it sorted? Cheers

bugger me - here we go again - copy and paste time....

you are still covered by the Sale and Supply of Goods to Consumers Regulations 2002 - not fit for purpose or not of satisfactory quality - take it back and say it is unfit for purpose and you want it fixed FOC within *** days or your money back.

The obligations to provide goods of satisfactory quality are more or less the same as those stipulated under the Sale of Goods Act 1979 (see BIF 142 A Guide to the Sale of Goods Act 1979). The Regulations also require traders to provide remedies where goods are not of satisfactory quality.

The effect of the Regulations is to create an automatic presumption, in favour of the consumer, that any defect in a product manifesting itself within six months is 'inherent'. This means that the defect was present at the time of sale. The burden of proof is on the trader to prove otherwise. The Regulations also provide a time limit of six years (five years in Scotland), during which period any claims for compensation may be submitted to a court.

I think you will find that the peeps wot sold yu the car are legally obliged to supply you with a working sat nav - unless yu bought it, knowing that it was defective. If, as you say, they were going to forward you the disc to enable it to work correctly, then yu may well have them under the above act.

bob,

PM me a contact address and I'll burn you a copy of mine, I had to buy a complete new sat nav unit off a lad on ebay because mine had water in it(think it was around £250 but it came with 12 months warranty and the latest 2008 copy disc). So I'm guessing I should be able to copy the cd that's in mine with it not being original.

Otherwise you could always buy another cd off ebay for a few quid?

I'm not sure what model my nav is, think its the last CD based system so the disc should be fine in yours too.

Mike
