Just about to replace my turbo and do a decoke on my 300tdi disco.
Is it worth me doing the rings and bigend bearings on the conrods. My disco has done 155,000 is it worth me doing the rings and bigend bearings? I would just fit standard size rings and bearings. Money is tight so i cant afford a rebore. All advice is welcome. and needed:)

dont change rings unless your having it rebored with fresh pistons and rings or try and hone it with drill and attachments as it will burn oil after do big ends and con rod brgs, they are normally pretty good at retaining cross hatch and dont usually wear much

I can see what you mean my cross hatch is still clearly visible. I filled the bores with petrol deisel mix 1 and 4 chambers drained off in about an hour and a half and 2 and 3 took overnight. Problem i have is lack off power and using oil checked the turbo and i had about 3-4mm play in the shaft. i also had oil in the intercooler and the venturi as well as the intercooler pipes. so the heads off for a decoke and the intake valves had gonky oil on the stems. So i then checked the breather pipe to the airintake side of the turbo and that was oily. So i thought maybe i was getting oil from there into the turbo and through to the intake side. So i thought maybe there is compression getting through to the sump.

Not worth it, aside from anything else 155k is barely run in for a tdi

If its never had a headgasket its about due for one however, and i would change the rocker caps. Its a few pounds but it could save you some hassle furthur down the line

hope that helps
