Is it the dreaded XYZ switch?

Hoping someone can advise me.
My `03 Disco auto had the classic symptoms of a dodgy XYZ switch.M & S lights flashing and car in to limp mode.Garage tested and diagnosed XYZ switch.

I had them take it off and I opened it up following a procedure posted on the forum.I was hoping to find evidence of water/gunk damage but it was very clean.I still cleaned all contacts etc and sprayed with a good contact spray.

Garage re fitted and all good - no lights, car running well......for about 6 miles then lights came back on and car in to limp mode.

Before I splash out on another switch does anyone know of anything else which would cause these symptoms?

The garage is not a LR specialist although I have used them for years and always been happy-would a specialist garage have better diagnostics which may show up something else?

Thanks in advance.

Poor battery condition can also contribute to similar symptoms. Put your battery on charge overnight for at least 12 hrs, then leave to settle for 1 hour, then check the voltage across the terminals - should be at least 12.6 volts.

I agree ^^^^ check battery and it's contacts . The auto box ecu is very fussy about its voltage . When my battery was get on a bit if I did just small trips ,not giving it time to get a good charge back after starting would always get m&s flashing more so on cold damp days when you got all the heaters going full pulling more power.

in case if the battery is OK, the only certain way to find the fault without replacing parts randomly is by using a dedicated tester cos there are 15 reasons for those M+S lights even though the low voltage or XYZ switch are the most common

also worth checking the loom that runs over/near the bell housing.
it can rub through the insulation exposing wires causing intermittant problems.
i`ve wrapped mine in that spiral plastic sleeving.

Thanks for the advice guys.Checked the battery etc and all is fine - going to check the wiring harness this week - checked out a couple of threads on this job and it seems straightforward enough (famous last words).

Cheers
