Sport Is it safe to drive the car when it's on bump stops?

Car is in need of new air compressor, but mechanic will not be able to replace it for another week. It's the only car I have. I don't do any major miles on it, but still need it everyday.

The 'Only Normal Ride Height Available' fault keeps flashing. The 4x4 info screen shows me that the car is attempting to raise from normal ride height but can't. The car is currently sitting at the lowest it can go and it's a very bumpy journey. Is it safe to travel in for the time being? The specialist that looks at it for me is 50 miles away - so I need to drive it to there regardless.
 
It’s telling you, you can’t change heights (the message) the system will try and raise but if it’s a bumpy ride, it probably is on the stops, as you say it needs a new compressor.
I wouldn’t want to drive 50 miles on the stops that’s for sure.
Change the compressor yourself, don’t think it’s hard to get at on the sport. The fault will clear if that’s the only problem.

I swopped the pump out on my sport in 30 mins but I have the advantage of doing the same thing on our d3 a couple of times.
Usually you need to cut the air lines off the rear then replace with a kit off the bay. The air pipes usually seize in the pump with age.

It’s being replaced under warranty because the compressor that’s in it was only replaced six months ago. Not sure what has caused it, because there was no visible signs of sagging or anything like that.
They want to do more tests with it once they’re able to pump air into it to make sure that it just is a faulty compressor so I kind of have to go.
 
Often if a new compressor burns itself out is due to a leak, not always evident where the compressor keeps kicking in to try and reach the required pressure

there is a way if u have access to a tyre inflator or compressor to raise the suspension and then disable it in normal ride height and therefore allowing u to drive it to the garage

Other factors can be it’s a cheap Chinese copy, do u happen to know if when the new one was fitted if it was like for like plse

Indeed shouldn’t be driven on bump stops so indeed need to get urs back to normal ride height or u will be looking at a recovery truck, not wishing to try and teach u how to suck eggs but of course mustn’t be towed under any circumstances

There is no way I'd be driving a vehicle daily, on the bump stops..

Nor would I drive it to the dealer for warranty work which as said above could invalidate your insurance - they need to send a transporter for it now, and furnish you a courtesy car.. Failing both, hire a car for the requisite period, and send them the bill..

when mine failed and went to the bump stops I just took it a mile up the road to get some fuel due to it running on fumes and indeed really bad driving it with the suspension that low

have heard of some being towed and then releasing after why there drivetrain has been totally wrecked

alas there are ways to get it back to normal ride height with the aid of a tyre inflator or air compressor , if the suspensions compressor is periodically working may be able to utilise that , then disable the suspension

but as u say failing that will be a flatbed
 
Driving any vehicle on the road with no suspension travel aint going to end well.

Get it recovered, if you cannot afford to get it recovered, join a breakdown company and then allow for the wait period to lapse.
