Here is an interesting thought... Anyone thought of fitting a TDV6 into a TD5 2000 model? or getting a rebore to 2.7?

Currently I have a TD5. Very nice.. Engine is just starting to get tired, so planning a change. Either a recon, overhaul myself, rebore or..... here it is........ FITTING A TDV6!!!!!!:D

Any thoughts on this, are the engine mounts the same etc? I presume I would need a new auto box to go with the TDV6 if it is possible!? or would I need to uprate the auto box to cope with a re bore to a 2.7 etc?

Any thoughts or upgrades would be handy (only in the planning stages at the mo!)

IMO not the mechanical/mounting stuff is the hardest... i'm thinking of how will u settle he engine management cos this one is quite different.... u will have to keep the old ECM too cos without it the BCU will fail... then u can't link the new ECM with the existing BCU cos it's incompatible ... the whole diagnostic and warning protocoll will not work with a different ECM...and so on... i dont say it's not doable but IMHO it's VERY complicated to do it as to keep working all the existing systems like they were conceived.

I feared that.. Hmm.. What else could I do.. Take a standard V8 and convert is to diesel? Gosh that would be completely impossible.. I guess I might just have to do a re bore.. But even then, that would seriously mess with the ECU and BCU. I would just like more power out my TD5 without going to a V8....

It's remapped and u are still unhappy?? ... if not get it remapped, it'll get the best out of it... if still no joy sell it and get a 6 litre suburban:D

No.. The plan is a one off rebuild.. I just love the shape of the TD5. The plan is a brand new chassis rebuild everything from scratch. A truly one off. The thing is, I do love the V8, but I think the TDv6 tops it marginally. I have found a source for a TDV6 engine from a crashed landie. Engine immaculate for 3k at 64k on it. The plan was to get the engine and rebuild it so it is pretty much brand new and then fit it to a new rolling chassis. I have not got as far as the suspension set up yet, but I would not mind fitting a full airbag rising suspension too. I have heard this is possible with a bit of trickery.

The plan is, for a complete one off prototype Disco 2 rebuild....

If all goes to plan, it will be a rebuild over the next 6 months.. With plenty of photo's along the way. I will have to do some research from the LRO mags.. If it is possible, I will definitely give it a go!

Ps... Yes... I am probably completely barmy!

Yes, seems easyer to fit up an empty D2 body/chassis with a D3(TDV6) complete equipment/wiring/ECU's... and u'll need to put the dash too if u want to have diagnostics/warnings and switches for the different enhancements... with that kind of budget it doesnt look so impossible

There is a company that fit them in the 300's. They are just working on the new 3.0 v6 to go in. They have videos on u-tube and the likes....google ;)

If you are planning a one off build, I see little sense building to a stock spec. You could get so much more performance if you mod also.

It's certainly all possible, but money, time and determination will be the limiting factors.

Bodylogic!? I will get in contact with them and have a chat... I am glad it is possible. :D

That is another thought... 300 chassis or TD5 Chassis? I suppose it does not really matter as long as I can do some welding.

That's a point too.... This means I can mod the TDv6 engine to get more power out of that. This will be a bit of a special motor..

For the transmission, whats the consensus.. Auto of Manual? (considering the mods)

Just don't forget to look at the brakes and handling - first rule of modding to go faster - make sure you can stop and handle the extra power ;)
