Hi All
I have a problem or might have and if anyone can help i would be greatfull.
I have a defender 90 200Tdi on a Q plate, purchased fron a garage with a full invoice etc.
It has been a Q plate for at least 11 years, on the V5C it states under year of manufacture, date unknown. The chassis plate reads SALLBCAH2AA 1----- which i have found out that it is a 109" series 3 petrol lefthand drive, this number was taken from the top of the brake servo. Now here comes the strange bit if the bit i have just said is not strange enough, i have had the chassis number checked on the chassis fully expecting it not to match the one in the engine compartment by my local Land Rover specialists, only for them to tell me it is the same number. bthey also said it is the original stamping and has not been plated over and restamped or ground down and restamped. it is a 200 Tdi even the engine is 90 and not from a disco. I have contacted the police who said if the DVLA have been happy for the last 11 years they would have no interest in the land Rover. i cant think of anything else i can do to get bit checked out. have any of you got contacts or ideas of what has happend, did Land Rover make mistakes? i even got the DVLA to send me the history and there is reference to a change of engine from petrol to diesel when i thought that this might be the owner who swapped identity with a nicked one, but then the numbers all match up.
HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!

so the plate on the brake servo is different from that on the chassis?

You bought it on a Q plate. You should have asked questions BEFORE parting with your £££. There is a reason its on a Q.

sounds like a hybrid --- says its a 90 but on a 109 chassis ????
Or is it a 109 with a 90 200tdi in it ???
Either way cops happy DVLA happy = no probs , stop worrying about it .

think its a bit late to ask the questions now but all seems in order probably been rebuilt and lost its identity or some thing if police and dvla are happy dont worry about it

The car has probably been built from the chassis upward with second hand parts as it is easy to do with landrover, was probably some ones project car. You can buy chassis from magazines which would give you a Q plate like a kit car, i wouldn't worry about it just enjoy the car and have fun :)
