I'm new here, but most impressed with the helpful posts I have read.

I have a question and would like your help, please.

I have a 1999 4.6 Vouge.

How can I tell if the newer RF unit has been fitted in the past? (many people seem to have had probs with the old units).

Where do I look?

What do I look for?

Regards,

Mike.

Park up at a supermarket, and just go shopping, if its immobilised, you have the old one, if not you have the new one!! (seriously)

There are 3 types and the outside case is the same on all of them. Only sure way to tell is to take the case off. If you do a search on rangerovers.net there is a picture of the 3 types of circuit board side by side.

Spot on advice:D:D:D

3 times now i have had to get the trolly collectors to push me away from the building at Asda in Sheffield.....park in the child or low emission bays at the other side and all is ok!

Take the plastic cover off you rf unit....if the circuit board is covered in an aluminium shield its a later one.

Firstly I must say what a quick reply and such good info, many thanks.:)

I was lead to beleive the RF unit was in the back of the vehicle (luggage space) behind the LH trim panel. On mine the CD changer is there and the unit screwed to the topside of that is not the RF unit I believe?

(it's a E26640 77-A4038-XXX, whatever that is!)

So exactly where do I find the RF unit. I'm sure many have been told before but being new (with my new to me R Rover toy) I need all the help I can get.

Under right hand O/S trim panel where parcel shelf sits. Remove that, it's under there, near seat back latch .

I have a great tip for you. When you're looking for such info.

Search google image with "RF receiver P38" or "YWY500170". Tons of infos by photos

Photos are universal

Brill, many thanks you've come up trumps again in very quick time, yes I've got it and it is one of the intermediate ones. I've had one does of the dreaded 'clickty clicks' so it is probably best to change it, although the battery had been changed by a previous owner, and not too long ago (he's fitted a 76 ah battery), I'm also wondering if I really should get a bigger one as well (Hmmm not cheap either).

That is a standard battery, if you change it, fit the largest one you can get in. Preferably one for the diesel version.

GREAT I've changed the RF Unit, piece of cake with your help.

Not sure if I got ripped though? inclusive of 10% discount I paid (inc VAT)£183.48 from the local Land Rover dealer, it seems a lot for a small RF receiver, you could buy a Gert Big Wireless for that!:)

Not bad.....

Island 4x4 (very decent prices on all parts - no affiliation) has it listed for £141.66 not inc. VAT

As with everything...if you look and look and look, you could find it a bit cheaper.....but oftentimes we pay a premium for convieniance.
