Had my Td5 in to local dealer for new wiper motor and mechanism under warranty and while in they did a free health check.

Apparantly my rocker cover gasket is leaking.

It looks like a simple case of removing engine cover, remove bolts, rocker cover and old gasket and replace everything with new gasket.

Is it that simple?

Anything else worth doing at the same time?

Dealer is quoting £80 including the gasket, so Im not sure if its worth the hassle of getting the tools out.

id do it myself you only need a 13mm spanner or socket and an 8mm for cover bolts and a little sealant etc to stick gasket in cover ,check injector loom connector for signs of oil under front of cover when you have accoustic cover off

presume I should use an original land rover part for the new gasket?

When you get original parts from Britpart is that the same as buying them from a land rover dealer?

i used aftermarket one, no problems and i didnt need silicone, think thats for later ones,
warming the gasket helps make it more supple prior to fitting

Warm the gasket and dont tighten the cover bolts down too hard or you'll strip the threads. I dont recall what the proper torque settings are but they are not very high.
You may want to leave the accoustic cover off for a while to make sure you've cured the leak. I never got round to putting any off mine back on.

yeah its easy enough to do although on 2 vehicles the bolt on the drivers side on the cover has turned with the captive nut and can be a pain to get off, but under warranty i wouldnt worry too much about this as this was on older less well looked after vehicles !! farmers  although £80 isnt too bad price wise, ive heard of the local dealer charging £100 for a headlight bulb change !!

My local stealer recently quoted £60 labour + £5 parts + 20% vat when my wife misguidedly took me Fender in because one of the number plate lamps wanted changing!

Suffice to say I gave her some strong words of advice. Bulbs cost me 80p for two and took two minutes to change including cleaning the inside of the lens. My 12 year old could have done it.

Thats works out at £1800 per hour at the stealer's rates, 525% mark up on parts, plus vat based upon a two minute job. Thats blatent profiteering or more accurately p!ss taking in my book.

Exactly, I changed the bulb for the customer, it was on a d3 bulb was £4.45 but its abit arquard to get to and fiddley so charged £10 seeing as our hourly rate is £42
