is Brit part sh*tpart? Who should I use?

Hi Im new to Defender ownership as of yesterday. Driven them before but always had the luxury of handing them back to work and letting them maintain them. I now have to look after my 2004 110 CSW myself.

I notice people going on about Sh*tpart. I pesume this is a derogotary term for Britpart? Are they not good then?

Who is the best supplier to use for 'normal' parts, serviceing parts, original type pieces that may be broken, need replaced etc

Britpart are fine, they are a rebranders who use other peoples parts and resell them as thier own. Many people complain about Britpart as they are stupid enough to expect high quality at budget price, you get what you pay for. For the majority of stuff (clips, fixings, panels, lights, locks e.t.c.) britpart are absolutly fine, for the stuff you want realiabilty and the bits that get abused (bearings, bushes, seals e.t.c.) then go for genuine spec stuff (genuine is the same part numbers but suffixed with a G), Britpart do sell OE spec stuff as well, again just rebranded, and this stuff is fine.

I have seen people give the 'Britpart is crap, XXXX make is so much better' when infact its the exact same make parts just different boxes...
 
Britpart are a distributor

Some of their stuff is fine, some isn't

They largely sell other people's stuff

3 options when buying bits, whether from britpart, paddocks, rimmers, LRDirect or anyone else:

1) LR Original - expensive

2) OEM - more expensive but usually good quality

3) Pattern part - cheaper, may be OK, may not fit well, may not last long


In essence, you pays your money and takes your choice

Oh, and my personal favourite supplier - LRDirect - quick dispatch, lower postage and usually offer range of manufacturers at different price points
 
Ive used quite a few Britpart parts mainly due to the fact that they are cheap, only one ive had a problem with was a thermostat which didnt work. Apart from that everythings been fine so far. Saying that ive just fitted new Britpart branded track rod ends so only time will tell if they decide to burst into flames and explode while im driving.

As previously said though, you get what you pay for.
 
The general impression that I have got from other people and their views is for moving parts britpart are to be generally avoided
 
Just got a britpart master clutch Assy. 10 pound compared to genuine land rover at 65 pound with already 30% off. Hoping it will do the job.
