Hi all,

Just about to start stripping the faithful p38 diesel down to replace the cylinder head but reading the RAVE i see im going to need various camshaft , flywheel etc locking tools in order to do the job.

As im only likely to do this once in a blue moon, before I fork out for more tools, is anyone here willing to lend me the special tools I need to do the job? I know its a bit of an ask but, you dont ask you dont get, do you?

Clearly, deposit and beer tokens do seem like a fair trade.

Look forward to hearing from you.

Cheers, ill keep him in mind anyway..... clearly I would be willing to leave a deposit on the kit if anyone else was willing to loan me, and I hate the idea im being judged by the standards of others. "grrrrrr" miserable buggers....

Im just pricing up the stuff I need, I might have some of it already if im lucky.

F'in hell!

LRT 12 108 Flywheel Timing Pin £35
LRT 12 112 Camshaft holding plate. £250
LRT 12 114 Timing Chain Pins. £20
LRT 12 115 Timing Chain Tensioner Release Lever £80
(prices rounded up, original prices taken from Dingocroft website)

£385 just for the tools! No wonder RAW111111 never saw them again.......

Reading through some old posts I reckon I can make the flywheel pin, but what else can be improvised?

Pretty sure the whole lot is in a kit for about £100 notes on the Bay. If you find some of my old threads @wammers posted up a link for me.

I have the kit but you'd have to get down to Aylesbury.

As it happens ive got to go your way to pick up a windscreen for something else..... Id be most grateful if I could borrow your kit, terms to be agreed of course.

OK. I will take a risk on you. If my tools go missing I come out of retirement ... Like John Wick. :)
I must say that on the couple of occasions I have loaned quite expensive non-tool (!) related stuff to fellow members, I have not been let down at all, in fact, quite the opposite. It is always a risk but, fingers crossed, my experiences have restored my faith in (some) humans :)

I used them for my Series II they do post, but like I say expensive, but when your working on something and want it now, you don't have much of a choice, but they are nice ppl and helpful

@RAW111111 never got his tools back, as far as I am aware. Pity as he's not so far from Warwickshire.
Yes, I never did see my set again, fortunately Grrr was willing to lend me his when I inevitably needed them again. I suspect I was just unlucky as my experience with forum communities is usually that most are honest to their word. That’s life eh! At least it was only a £100 eBay special kit not £400 of dealer spec tools though. Good luck with the job.
