so now ive had my 2000 p38 vogue running via the eka code for about 3 weeks since my fob suddenly packed up. however some intermittent problems led me to unplug the rf receiver totally (both plugs).
ive just gone out to it, and i had left it unlocked, so i tried to lock it with the key so i could start the eka, it locked the doors, but wouldnt turn the alarm on. it wont let me put the code in, and when i turn the ignition on to try and start it, the message says ENGINE IMMOBILISED, PRESS REMOTE.
it dosent say OR ENTER EKA CODE, like normal.
also there is a faint red light on the gear selector when you select p, n, or 1. not any of the other gears. tried disconnecting the battery for a while, but no change.
its really tested me lately, and this is a real kick in the plums when i thought i was nearlly there with it, so any help on this one would be great.
cheers guys.

no, i'll go and try that now, also, just been back to it and noticed the dim red light on the gear selector dosent stay on for long when you leave the car.

just re-connected the rf receiver, but not the aerial, no change though. also, just noticed now its getting dark, when i lock the door, the interior light stays on until it gradually fades out, like when you get in but dont put the ignition on.

also, when locking with the key, two locks within 1 + half seconds will superlock it, but thats stopped now aswell.

have you tried this disconnect the battery both pos and neg, connect a jump lead to the neg and pos cables NOT the battery, this will power down all the capacitors in the ecu,s,give it a good 10 mins, then reconnect the battery and try it,presuming your battery has plenty of charge in it,let us know how you get on

also is your key fob knackered or just not re-sync to the car?

do you mean join the pos and neg together with one jump lead once removed? should i bear the weather and do it now, leaving it overnight?
i think my fob is o.k, it was working fine until one day i went to the car and nothing.

thats right mate one jump lead,if you leave it like that overnight, stick your battery on charge if you can, then recoonect in the morning, try the key sync on your other thread once the battery is reconnected

ok andy, get this.
just gone out with my jump lead, opened it up, popped my bonnet, and thought i'd give it one last go at starting it before disconnecting. guess what? it only started!
so i took it a spin round the block in totall disbeleif, parked up again, switched off, shut the door and tried to lock it with the key like i've had to for a few weeks now.
no superlock, no alarm! my heart sank. tried starting it again, didnt expect anything, but it fired up. so i thought i'd try the fob.
AFTER 3 WEEKS THE FOB WORKS AGAIN!!!!!
i dont know what i did, how i did it, which re-sync combo worked, but something did!
everthing is working as before now. dont know how long for but at least for now.
think i'll upgrade the rf receiver anyway now.
so a massive thanks to you and everyone who gave me input yet again at landyzone.
much appreciated.
i'll keep everyone posted on this issue if there's any more developments.

i would maybe take it to someone who can do a diagnostic on it and make sure the becm is switching itself of after it has been locked, and a general tidy of any stored faults,i know it,s the cost thing, but also be wary if they say it needs this and needs that as a lot of garages are doing allsorts of tricks and things just to get work

so the key works remotely now as well??

When you put the key in the ignition, on your year of P38 that should sync the key back up with the vehicle. Sounds like it has worked - guess you checked for a dodgy battery connection in the fob??

Glad its working again for you!

-Wills :)

i know i should get a diagnostic on it, but like you said andy, i'll have to be carefull.

the fob now works remotely wills, totally out of the blue. i had it running ok using the eka for past few weeks, untill tonight when it went schitzo again, gave me the run around for a few hours, and is now better than ever.
it must have cleared its throat! if it was a dog, it would have been put down by now!
the trust has gone now, as its the second time its happened in the last 4 months, so i think i'll have to let someone in the know plug it in and read its mind. i'll let you know what the doctor says.
