IRD Oil Type/Brand

What type and brand of oil are you guys using/recommend in the IRD unit ? That's easy/readily available in the UK ?

Far too expensive - Spry,Crisp and Dry does it.

Used or does it HAVE to be clean stuff ? (I really am that tight)

I couldnt source any of the specified oil from the dealers, they tried to flog me gearbox oil saying that will do. I wasnt sure, checked with the troops on here told not to do so.

I used CarLube 75-90, as used in Nissan skyline diffs,

Comma will do as well, doesnt have to be Texaco.

Make sure it has for hypoid or for helicol gears, Zinc thiosulphate additives make the spiral gears slip over each other, also gives it that eggy smell, possibly why it turns black after prolonged usage, Metal sulphides are black, so stands to reason

Thats the kinda info I was looking for, haynes is a little off with some stuff...i.e. remove engine for timing belt etc..eh no..

No probs ...........we are all learning arent we?

Got mine from Douglass Motors of Wolston near Coventry, charged me about £6 a litre, I think you need about 2 litres. ( Its Synthetic fluid, they will tell you the numbers, I can't remember details,)

That was gonna be my next question , I know the haynes tells ya all that kinda stuff but its as reliable as a handbrake on a canoe sometimes..
