Wonder if anyone can shed any light on what would cause intermittent starting problem?

The problem is that sometimes when you start it, it struggles to start revs fail to rise like a stumble but doesn't stall. Happens engine hot or cold, few months ago had a fault that engine would suddenly lose power like it wanted to stall then would kick in, bought a cheapo maf sensor and this never happened again but after a month or so its started this starting problem.

Did buy a used bosch maf from ebay last week plugged it in and the obd scanner app says this is reading _._ or 0.0 company said must be an injector problem as maf wouldn't effect starting and obd2 scanners don't read proper. is that true maf doesn't effect starting?.

Things have tried the first maf back in the car Bosch one car runs like a dog intermittent power, and doesn't stall the car if unplugged while running runs the same connected or not.

Cheapo one car runs with power and stalls if unplugged doesn't want to start if unplugged. Gives figures for maf reading on obd

Used Bosch one from last week just like the first one took off the car runs like a dog and doesn't stall with it unplugged

plugs, leads replaced last may, air filter is k&N been cleaned even tried running without this installed no difference to all the sensors.

Any advice welcome or if anyone knows where who can give a decent price for proper fault code reading?

Thanks

See if there's a member local to you with Nanocom. Generic odb isn't really any use on these cars to be honest.

Was going to ditch the k & N as it always seems more work than its worth.

Does the maf have involvement with the p38 starting?

Thanks for that, just had a look at the rave manual and on the rangie. Looks like a lot of parts to remove to take the sensor out, the sensor its self looks corroded where its located.

Was planning on doing the tappets and cam in the better weather might leave it until then. Should the heads be done when doing the tappets and cam? its got 122k on it and as far as previous invoices there's nothing there about the heads.

Thanks

That's up to you, but it would make more sense to do the lot.
