Evenin' All,

Another day, another fault! After yesterday's torrential rain, heat and humidity, my starter has begun playing up.

When the key is turned all I hear is the solenoid click. I can turn the key several times and nothing will happen then all of a sudden the beast springs to life. However if I just flick the key round it will start after just a few attempts. Until yesterday it fired first time, every time!

Anyone got any advice on the matter?

Cheers,

Dave

It's a common fault. I think it's time you got one of these.;)

Landrover Discovery TD5 Diesel Starter Repair Kit 98 on on eBay (end time 25-Jul-09 08:17:45 BST)

I've sent an enquiry off to them to see if they do a kit for the 2.5 NAD. Fingers crossed!

At least that explains why you are posting the question in the deepender section. I thought it was just a clerical error on your behalf cos your profile says you have a TD5 disco.:doh::doh::p

If you can get hold of a solenoid kit though it should still sort the problem out.

Hit the starter with a hammer via something long enough to reach! it will fire straight up as you have freed the spring on the solonoid,....you still need to fix it with the repair kit or new starter but if you hit it hard enough it works every time ..honest try it.

Hmmm, there isn't a repair kit available for my starter and I've checked the Rimmer's catalogue!!!!!!!! £173 for a replacement!!!!!

Spoke to my local motorist discount shop, and they say they can get it recon'd.

Does anyone know of anyone that does repair kits for this starter?

Cheers

If they can get it reconned then parts must be available.
Just keep poking about on the interweb.
Failing that find out where they get the things reconned and go to them direct.

Some good stuff on that website.

I'm taking the starter to Sungold auto electrics in Newcastle tomorrow. THey say they can either repair the starter or recon the whole unit.

Fingers crossed!
