Hi, since i have had my 1.8 Freelander, occasionally the Engine Management light would come on, always when 1st driven that day & only lasts 30 secs....you can feel its 'not right' then it clears & all is fine. Has only been a handful of times but would like to get it sorted. Has always according to my scanner been CYLINDER 3 so i swapped round the Coil Ignition Packs....been running fine lately but today same thing happened...only this time the Scanner says it was CYLINDERS 1 - 2 & 3....

Plugs are fine....can anyone point me in the right direction....should i buy 2 new Coil Packs

Thanks......;)

Does it use water? If not try cleaning the coil and leads and check the coil connection.

Hi, no...doesnt use any water, new coil packs seem a tad expensive at around £45 each & as i need 2 i dont really want to go down that route till i know for certain its them thats faulty....could get a 2nd hand set for around £20 but who's to say that they are any better than the ones i have fitted....will have a good look at the wiring 2moro...as its an intermittent fault maybe i shouldnt worry too much

It has also crossed my mind that the pump non-return valve could be allowing the fuel to drain back to the tank. This would take a few seconds to pump the air in the line through the injectors which would cause a temporary miss fire.

That sounds interesting.....would that mean that i should look at a possible pump replacement?

Possibly. It's just a thought really. I think it's a possibility especially if there is an injector that has a slight leak as it could allow the fuel rail to empty back into the tank. It's that or the coils.

Hi, is it possible to strip down the fuel pump & permanently seal/fix the fuel return valve..
Have had a look on eBay & there seems to be a large variety of pumps & prices!!!! Also noticed an ECU FUEL PUMP RELAY MODULE...again could this be a possible culprit:eek:

So many different parts could cause this but i am tending to steer towards what NODGE suggested re the fuel pump....might visit a scrappys today & get one...

Hate cars...:D

You can check whether the pressure is holding in the fuel rail easy enough. Leave the vehicle over night, in the morning un clip the fuel pipe where it enters the engine bay. Do this before turning the ignition on. If it sprays fuel as the pipe is released you'll know the pressure is holding.

Thanks, going to pick up a Fuel Filter 2day as i bet its NEVER been changed
Could be something as simple as that.....fingers crossed
