hi 02 freelander td4 every now and then with no apparent reason the car will not start just cranks over, does not matter if hot or cold if left for a couple of hours will start and be fine might last untill turned off again or might go a few days, the eml light is not on and i have had the codes checked with no codes stored.

Iv found a fault in the past due to a sticking low pressure diesel pump(pre supply pump) . Depending on the age I think it's under the nsr wheel arch.
next time it doesn't start it might be worth either locating the pump and giving it a knock, u should be able to hear the pump running when u put the ignition on although it will be quiet.
Or checking if u have low pressure fuel to ur engine when the car won't start??

Hope this may be of help

I agree with previous reply, Mine did same as well as holding back at top end of revs. when pump was tested it had good pressure. A new LP pump cured it.
