Interior Light

I have a discovery 300 series, my front (map) light will not switch on when all doors are closed. If I open any door it will come on. It performs as it should except at night when I try to switch it on manually it will not come on. I have tried changing the whole unit but same problem. Any ideas?

I had this problem - have a look at the light.

There are three connectors, one of which is 'earth' to the bodywork, and clicking the switch connects to this earth, lighting the light. There is supposed to be a separate wire running to that terminal, providing the ground connection. Not only was mine not connected, but I could not find the wire ANYWHERE, so ended up making up a little flying lead from that pin through to the sunroof winder motor, which provides the earth.

Bet you have the same problem!
