Howdie,

Not sure if anyone else has experienced this but I figured I ask. I've noticed recently that the interior lights take up to 30 seconds to come on when the rear left hand passenger door is opened:confused:. Not sure why this is the case or where to start... The interior lighting comes on right away when all other doors are opened. Could the switch at that door be "stuck" or need greasing? Could this be a problem with the BECM??

Any help as to where to start troubleshooting is greatly appreciated!

Thank you ahead of time!

Mine does this occasionally...one of those things i keep meaning to sort out, i notice it more now with putting the baby seat in.

Thanks guys for the quick responses! Do you know where is the lock mechanism switch? I looked on the chassis of the car for an obvious switch but didn't see anything... Does the door panel need to be removed? Us there another post describing how to remedy this?

Thanks ahead of time for the assist!

Door card has to come off. Look in RAVE fro details or do a site search, lots of info on door locks. The switches are part of the lock mechanism.

Got it, thanks guys! I'll try to see if I could just lubricate it. Do you think a new part is required or just some good old lubrication?

Thanks again!

I found that the original white grease in the lock mechanism had been thrown off the mechanical bits, sprayed around the interior and then hardened in places. A good clean out then a fresh lubrication should clear your fault.

I used 3 in 1 oil when mine stuck the other way! it said door open with light on all the time
Took the lock out and drowned it in the stuff left it to soke for an hour shook it of dryed and refited and alls being fine now for 8ish months

Thanks guys for the help! I've gone ahead and took your suggestions and think I've fixed the issue!:D

After reading your responses I went to RAVE and printed out all the information to pull out the door card and lock mechanism and was ready to do the work and thought to myself why not try to lube the switch part that is noticeable/visible on the passenger door before removing the door panel? The switch had a lot of white grease on it (I think I got carried away last time I applied the grease to the door) so I simply took out some of the grease and sprayed a little bit of WD-40 making sure enough of it got in the latch but not too much! After closing the door a few times and opening it works without a problem!

I'm just relieved it wasn't a bigger issue! I hate removing door cards since I always tend to break one of those plastic clips and or another part :( so I'm glad I didn't have to remove it on the P38!

Cheers and thank you gents for all the help! I love the P38 and love even more the fact that this forum exists and other enthusiasts are here to help!
