Hi i want to install a bigger aftermarket intercooler into my 2.5 dt p38 and was wondering which make would be the best to go for? Also does the fuelling need altering? The engine now has a brand new injector pump fitted!
I have a problem with starting it at the moment from cold. It takes a good 15 seconds mayb more of cranking over before the engine fires up. I have replaced the glow plugs and the water temp sensor but this has made no difference. Any help and advice is greatly appreciated!

A £450.00 intercooler will make not one jot of difference to the starting problem. You just get cooler more dense inlet air the system will adjust automatically, no need to change anything. Change the ECU temp sensor.

I know that it wont solve the starting problem just want more ooomph!:)

You will get a little more when engine is running at max temp. The turbo warms and thins the induction air as it compresses it. The intercooler cools and makes it more dense before it enters the engine. If the inlet air is hot and thin the system injects less fuel so you get less power. If the air is cool, it is dense, so the system inject more fuel to maintain the fuel/air mix ratio. So increasing power. Contrary to popular belief you cannot get more power from a otherwise unmodified diesel engine other than injecting more fuel.

Another fix is to fit a one way valve to the fuel supply pipe between the filter and the pump as sometimes the fuel can run back to the tank over a period of time, ie overnight, or if left all day. good luck

Unless you are going for a re-map and upping the power a lot, don't waste your money on a bigger intercooler, it will do nothing.

Correct, very marginal for the money spent. Same money spent on a good tuning chip will gain a lot more if there is not one already fitted.

Ok thanks for that advice. will try that stuff when i get back to the uk. currently in afghanistan so will source parts when i return. What is a good chip to go for and from where?
