Intercooler Upgrades

Hi all, I've seen several threads that comment on upgrading 200 tdi Intercoolers to increase power, but non that actualy give any feedback as to whether using a universal intercooler or a scrap yard cheepie is effective. Anyone out there done a DIY job rather than spending a fortune on an Alisport and if so how well did it work?

There are a few tweaks you can do without laying out any cash or changing anything parts wise. Have a look at http://www.stonefisk.com/doc-arc/def_man/ThermoGuard_Tdi_Tuning_Rev.2.pdf
before you spend any money.

Take the one out that ye've got and give it a good clean inside and out... makes a big difference if it hasn't bin done in a while.

Thanks. I'll take a look at the fuel pump. The intercooler's pretty clean as it was done last year when I replaced the rad. I'm towing a heavy caravan down to Spain this summer and given the weight and (I hope) high temps, was looking at the intercooler to see if I could gain a bit of pulling power for the big lumpy bits. I did it last year and found myself down below 40 on some of the long hills.
