Hi There,

I hope you can help.

I just picked up a freelander 1 as a run around for my other half. It’s a 2005 TD4 Auto.

I noticed that one of the hoses is leaking oil on the INTERCOOLER. Please see photo.

Will I need to drop the oil before changing this? Sorry if it’s a stupid question.

I attached a photo of which part is leaking and with hose I am looking to change.

no .. it aint a stupid question :)

a little bit of oil in those hoses is considered normal.
it comes from the turbo.
......................................................
it can degenerate rubber hoses over time
silicon hoses are better.

that oil is sucked thru the egr valve as well
where it mixes with exhaust gas ..
the result is a black goop that builds up in the intake manifold
best to do the 'egr-delete' modification.
[ usually no probs. at mot time ]

Great thank you for the quick reply!

I will order a silicone one for it and tackle it when I get dry weather.

Would you advise changing them all to silicone? Or wait for them to fail and then change? It’s only the small hose leaking the other hoses look new to be fair.

I was thinking of doing a EGR delete, but touch wood I haven’t had any issues with it. So I was going do that once I put all the other things right.

.. over time it'll gunk up .. and the valve will stick ..
i gained 3mpg when it were deleted ..
and manifold / inlet tracts remained clean.
