got to do my insurance statement today....what should I say/not say, other than the truth obviously?

Also, assessor says its a class B write off,but even tho Im entitled to have the salvage of the vehicle his company discourage it...basically he was saying if you dont make me look bad to my boss, then you'll get a better settlement....advice?

As you say you own the vehicle so you are entitled unless that is if you have signed a paper that says something different.

If you want to keep the vehicle.
You accept the payout and have the vehicle returned to you.
You repair and put back on the road.
You sell the vehicle in the 'as seen' condition.
You break it up and sell as parts.

If you dont want to keep the vehicle.
The insurance company will take ownership and sell it on in the 'as seen' condition, so you let then keep the car but negotiate higher payout based on what it would cost to repair or what you could sell it for.

Some would say keep the disco and buy another as a donor vehicle to replace the damaged parts.

May be wrong but if you have the vehicle returned to you the paperwork is not stamped " WRITE OFF"
I did the same thing 25 years ago and I repaired the car and there was no 'write off' stamp in the logbook, But things may have changed.

Right,now I understand the cat B business,thanks guys.

However,my ES with bells and whistles and wood dash was insured for £3250,taking into account my £250 excess and replacement value of the car with new rear floor, brake system and lots of other elective (ie not asked for by mot) work......
...the assesor/engineer admits that ther is no straight replacement for less than 3 grand, unless I travel at least 500 mile round trip (and then the car may not be any good anyway) but refuses to go above £3500,in reality £3250 with the excess......
....any advice?

also, due to a cock up in their comms I didnt get a hire car for a week and had to hire one myself to cover it,and everyone I spoke to is denying having daid theyd pay for ie,no one of that name works here, etc etc....advice

Oh yeah, and no FFS do a seaech comments cos I have!

Not sure about the first bit, but as for the car hire you might have lost out.
You Hired a car for a week and then did they provide you with one?
If it was a cockup on there part but they did manage to get one for you I don't think you can claim it.

But if they haven't given you a car, then go through your insurance paperwork and make sure it says it's part of the cover!!!

Or you could call Trading Standards and let them sort it out

Hope you get it sorted.

Heggars, the hire car quandry stems from the fact that the garage who recieve the damaged vehicle should give a coutesy car to me until mine is declared a total loss,at which point the insurer,NFU should give me one.Due to the garage and the insurer not communicating I was not given a car by the garage as thay were not told to,also they are arguing about who declared the total loss and when, the garages engineer,or later the NFU guy, eitherway,my policy entitles me to a car,and I had to go rent one while they both got their **** sorted,THATS what I want to claim back, the cost of their mistake!

HELP!!!!

Also, advice time....Ive got the engineer to go as high as he will for a Disco 96 auto ES with a bar, spots, new floor, years MOT full service history and wood dash,etc,etc,....he hates me now but has come up to £2700 after admitting that there were no equivilents under 3 grand ish nearer than 200 miles. With my £250 excess that gives me £2450 to play with,or he darkly mutters it will go to the claims department "and then he cant help me anymore"...personally I cant see that he's helping me at all given that the insured value is three and a quarter......

.....what should I do?What happens if it goes to the threatened claims department?Am I going to lose everything as he threatens?Come on guys, help me out,I got to make the decision by tomorrow and I've never had to fight it this hard before

shocksi

I would take the money and run. They only pay out the market value whatever it is insured for and £2,700 for a 1995 sounds quite good at the moment. Doesnt seem good but what would you have sold it for? Or what would someone have paid for it?

thanks Tom!

C'mon the rest a yer, gawd Ive never known anyone who hasnt had some grief with insurance....help me out guys,PLEASE!!

shocksi, only 8 days left on hire car

Sounds like pure Bull to me - sure he doesnt want it himself? Cant you talk to his boss directly? Cut out the middle man? Whether you have the vehicle or a salvage yard takes it should make no difference to them surely???

nope, since the glorious blair revolution to take a cat b you got to have a waste disposal lisence....but I think you may have a point MM,.....he let slip hes got a deepender so he might want it for the 300tdi 129hp engine that goes in the autos
