hi so in March I turn 18 . am hopping to have finished my project series 3 88" 1981 safari to. how much should I expect to pay for it on insurance . it should be covered by classic insurance right ? Will this make it cheaper? got a quote when I passed my test while I been 17 and was gunna be 1700 quid

you are too young to get a classic policy iirc they usually have 25 as a min age. classic is usually used for second cars too and doesn't usually attract a no claims discount which wouldn't be much use to someone starting out, I imagine you would want to start building up your no claims

try phoning Adrian flux, they insured my daughter on a series 3 for £800

As above I doubt you will get any classic policies, Pete Best Insurance, Flux, try some of the people who advertise as Land Rover specialists and if its bog standard just through it through the comparison sites , one year I was surprised and it was cheap
One word of warning read the wording before and after you take the policy out i recently had a near miss with some one who advertises as classic specialist basically the policy arrived and was totally different to what I was told over the phone.

As well as your age, your postcode has a big affect on the cost of insurance. City post codes cost more than rural ones. I live in a small town but we have a Reading post code which caused the insurance cost to be high. My insurance here is more than what it was when I lived in Birmingham and that is the car theft capitol of the U.K.

okay ill check it out it wont be my first car i have a fiesta as my main car already which is doing my no claims bonus. how old was you daughter when they said 800?

about the age you are now but a couple of years ago, she pays less now due to ncd.

quote was about the same for my eldest at that age for the series but he wanted more power and turned the landy down.

seems to me there is some luck and timing with insurance, depends who has capacity at the time and what they will do to attract business. my eldest got an excellent deal with Tesco when he passed, shortly after he got in they stopped taking cars of the age he was driving and put their rates up generally. still offered him a competitive renewal though.

we got a deal on one of the other cars with general accident last year, they wanted half what others wanted, soon after we took them up their rates for new business went back up. capacity and mix of portfolio must be an influencing factor, the joys of being an actuary :D
