Insurance won't cover front tubular bumper

Hi all
Not sure if anyone has had this problem, my current insurers will cover all mods to my truck except for the front bumper, it's a tubular bumper. Tried getting a few quotes and most of them won't cover the bumper, am I missing something here?? I've heard a few bad reviews about Adrian flux so a bit reluctant to try. Any information would be great.

Wasn't there a law change back in 2007 about A bars and heavy duty bumpers? Something to do with pedestrians being more likely to die if you hit them with 2 tonne of 4x4 and a heavy duty bumper rather than just 2 tonne of 4x4?

Mine is covered, try a 4x4 specialist company instead, will be cheaper...

As far as I remember, the only law change in this regard was bull bars, but even that is a bit vague. Basically if your vehicle is newer than (I think so don't quote me) 1999/2000 then any bumpers or tow equipment must be type approved, which basically means that any A bars or Bull bars had to be foam ones!

It went on to stop manufactures selling new non type approved ones, but any existing ones fitted to vehicles was fine. The vague bit was that you could still buy a second hand one, fit it and as long as you claimed it had been on for years you'd be fine!

Jongould hi you got any names as the ones I've tried seem to be a bit expensive and not to keen on Adrian flux

Cos a defenders sooo pedestrian friendly! Can't see a heavy duty bumper making one any worse!

Sureterm 4x4 were quite reasonable for me, they give discounts for members of land Rover clubs, so you could try them for a quote..... husband used Frank Pickles for the modded discos but think Flux may have bought them out...

My point exactly, but at least we know that when the rules came over from Brussels they would have been well thought out and sensible......

Yes, they have.
If you don't like the Flux, try Lancaster, Heritage and be-wiser4x4.
Much depends on individual circumstances of course.

I went through Lancaster and had no problems at all.

I'm with Lancaster as well and not had any issues till I went to change the vehicle after mine was written off. (Both 300Tdi Discovery's)

We came to the seat numbers, I said 7, but the two in the boot will be removed as I don't think they are safe to travel in, Lancaster said if I removed the rear seats they would have to refuse cover as its a modification to the vehicle!!

Bloody hell I'm constantly confused by insurers. Like when they were telling people their claims were void because they had winter tyres on their cars and so on. You just can't predict them can you

But what you have to remember, is that insurance companies only have one loyalty, make money for the shareholders! We talk customer loyalty but they are not interested, money for shareholders, end of.

I had insurance renewal withdrawn by Direct Line because I'd had a raised air intake fitted. Managed to get insurance through "Be Wiser Insurance". They may be able to help you.

Where do they get the prices from? I'm with Lancaster and paying £220!!

Mine went from £680 to £132 when we moved postcode, even though this house is only 1.5 miles from the last one. They just make it up.
