Insurance in Canada

I have driven my Landrover up from Cape town South Africa and am en route to
Canada, USA C. and S. America.

Does anyone know what are the vehicle temporary. import regulations in
Canada and if I will need a carnet. Also is insurance compulsory there and
can I get it upon arrival or is it better to source it here in the UK?
