Hi guys

Right... i have a damaged instrument cluster in my L322 at the minute, now ive managed to find a bargain second hand one from the same year with a warranty.

The main question i have is if i fit it myself will it affect the mileage etc of my vehicle?

i know how to replace the cluster just dont want to bugger the car up! if itll mess it up then ill have to pay a guy £100 to do it for me i.e. if data needs taking from the old for the new cluster.

any help, advice or guidance will be greatly appreciated

cheers John :D

I thought that on a P38 the mileage was recorded both in the instrument pack and in the BeCM. I also thought that if you replaced the instrument pack with one showing a different mileage, the BeCM would always default to the higher figure in either it or the instrument pack. Could be different in L322's though.

I know there was a thread on here a while ago, where the guys L322 odo was showing 999999, not sure if he got it sorted or not, try a search.

on a p38 the mileage of the highest is recoreded( not sure if thats true, i read it here somewhere)

i'm sure you can get software to alter the odo reading, might be worth a try on your old head first. i have software to alter em but dunno if it works on landies!

correct on a p38 the higher milage is recored as i found out when i change my cluster (bugger) dont know if you can easly correct it.

on the p38 it would have to go through a dealer i would imagine, on generic obd2 cars i think it can be done via a laptop and lead. usually on newer cars tho!

not that i am in the habit of 'correcting' odo readings!

thanks fella's ill make a few phone calls first, maybe best to first check what the milage is of the replacement

if MIL is paying might aswell get the more expensive anti theft stuff done!
