I'm gonna treat the old girl ('94 RRC) to some new tyres, but can't decide between these two models.

The Ranger is the same tread patten as the legendary BF Goodrich A/T tyre, so I am confident this would be a good choice, but can anyone confirm their experiences for me?

Alternatively, the is the Traction Track tyre, which I don't recognise the tread pattern of, but is also a 50:50 on/offroad tyre like the Ranger. The bit that interests me was the description on the Paddocks website:

Excellent off road mud terrain capabilities combined with on road all-terrain advantages make the Traction Track the ultimate compromise 4x4 tyre.
-Small siped tread blocks in the centre offer maximum road stability and good all round on road traction.
-Aggressive alternating shoulder lugs give maximum off-road traction.
-Non-directional traction design provides excellent self cleaning (mud, snow, sand).

Anyone had any experience of these either? The mention of self-cleaning in snow/mud/sand is of particular interest, as the car will be used throughout winter, probably in some fairly deep snow at times, also for greenlaning trips and next year I've got a trip to Morocco planned, which will involve sand.

Any idea which tyre would be best for my needs, the Ranger or the Traction Track? I'm going for a 235/70/16 size.

Cheers!

The traction tracks are a copy of the old bfg trac edge which were a very good tyre. I've got the insa traction tracks on my disco and they are very good offroad and on road.

Thanks guys! Tarantula - have you got them on yours yet? Where did you buy them from?

Cheers Jon, think these might be the way to go!

This is the bombhole on strata Florida which you all probably know is a very steep slippy rock face but the traction tracks do it with ease.

This place seems to be cheapest at the mo..

Insa Turbo Traction Track - EARS Motorsport LLP, road, race, rally & trackday equipment & tyres by mail order

I've got them for £75 from the tyres guys I always use, but that is fitted which I think is a fair price!

How dare you reply to a serious enquiry in such a frivolous and childish manner. I shall write to the editor and express my disappointment. Really.

Do let me know the editor's response?

Cool vid V8Jon!

Cant fault Insas, they have been brilliant to me...have a set of Saharas and Mountains for the Series...also have a set of Mountains on the RRC.

Good to know! I did read several people saying the Moutains weren't up to much offroad, so I have gone for the Track Tracks, based on the BFG Trac Edge tread pattern. Research suggests they have good road manners but are also very capable offroad and very good in the snow and sand (self-cleaning tread pattern) so they should see me fine.

Is it wrong to be excited about tyres? I think it probably is.

I'll second that the patter works well I had the Bronco pattern and they were a very good allrounder road/offroad. I would buy these if they did them in a decent size.

I've had the Traction Track on the Disco for about 30k if not more and still lot's of tread.

I went from normal road tyres to these, they are quite noisy, I lost 50 miles a tank, the handling and braking on road has suffered because of them but they are worth it.

Have helped out many road users in the snow with these tyres on.

Just had a pair of traction tracks delivered this morning. They look ****ing amazing! Can't wait to get them on... just need my replacement locking nut key to arrive now..

That's worrying, I wasn't expecting a drop in fuel economy I must admit - it's bad enough as it is! I wonder why that is? The rolling resistance shouldn't be any greater, should it?

Handling seems fine so far - different, but acceptable. Sounds like they should be good in the snow at least!
