Has anyone had or got these on their Freelander? and if so are they OK.
My 2003 Serengeti TD4 Auto has it"s MOT this week and depending on the outcome I want to fit some winter tyres preferrable knobbly ones and the Insa Turbo look alright.
The other thing is, Will they fit witout any alteration to the bosywork etc?

Knobbly tyres aren't necessarily any better on a muddy/snoy/icy road, than normal summer road tyres, and often much worse.

They are fine in thick off road situations, but that's what they are designed for.

Winter tyres are made of a compound that's designed for use in conditions where the temperature is below ~15°C, and have a tread that has been designed to cut through mud and snow, and also have hundreds of "sipes" (zigzag cuts), which are specifically designed to grip on ice and dissipate water.

Turbos come in a range of off road tread patterns, all noisy on the FL1, and none designed for winter use, and from what I've seen, perform poorly in the wet.

So although knobbly tyres may look like they will grip in all conditions, they will fall well short on winter performance, compared to a proper "Three Peaks" rated winter tyre.

Insa Turbo is a manufacturer of tyres, they makes lots of different ones. Which tread pattern are you looking at exactly?

They are usually vastly better IMO and in my personal experience. Does depend exactly what you are meaning by your statement in terms of tyre or surface.

It's all relative isn't it. I've found that AT tyres are ok in general use, be that on wet, muddy snowy roads. They aren't much use on ice, which is where Three Peak tyres excel.

The general misconception is that AT or mud treads are ideal for winter road diving, which they aren't, not by a long way.

You can't improve on a dedicated winter tyre, which is why they are mandatory in many European countries over the winter months, but most ATs aren't permitted. ;)

Thanks all,
I"ve got ATs on at the moment but they are a cheaper make so maybe I might splash out and buy a good set of 5. Any ideas?
