Has anyone ever had the CAV pump stop working and dumping the fuel onto the ground?
I do have a replacement pump which has been fully serviced, and is ready to go.
However, I'm not overly keen on stripping the front end, removing the timing belt cover, fitting the pump and rebuilding.
I believe that it is posible to remove the exisitng and replace in situ, but have never tried it.
Has anyone any experience of doing it in situ, or is the only option a front-end strip?
Maybe @jamesmartin might be able to advise, as he is one of not-a-lot whose word I take as Gospel.
Thanks.

theres a tool that bolts to the front cover and holds sprocket in place whilst it pushes pump from the sprocket so you dont disturb timing belt or timing, its in two parts ,ive got a heavily used one if you want to borrow one, lrt-12-029

Where is the CAV leaking from? Some of the usual leaks can be done for the sake of an O-ring in situ!

+1 on o ring.
It's the large o ring under cover with 2 bolts.
Unsure what this is called but dumps fuel quick but still runs.

Sorry about the delay in getting back to you all.
The clue was that there was no fuel o the injectors and it was peeing out onto the deck.
It will probably be easier and quicker to replace the pump with a spare which was fully serviced a couple of years ago, and has only run under test.
Then I can get the other one sorted.

Is it coming from the disc shaped thing on the bottom? Its a damper and costs 30 odd quid, it will **** fuel out and drain the pump leaving a no start situation in a matter of hours. Its easy to replace, it unscrews and the new one screws in, there is a little silver ball though to watch out for.
