injector washer question

Yes. On the very top flat edge where the injector nozzle is, it fits around the step just slightly lower down. I've never replaced my injector washers once and I've had em all out two or three times.

cheers pos. so the buggers are still down the hole , i'm gettin a bit seepage of fuel from mine so was thinkin of replacin them , so you'll have no idea of how to get them oot, an the injectors are to be tested tomorrow, have a sneaky fellin one isnae right.

Oh, you didn't say they were (are) stuck! Suppose you could just try to gently prise them out with a screw driver if you can some how get under them. If that doesn't work, just try making a shape like the scary dentists tool on the left:

which should be able to pull them out!

You into money lendin as well pos, black un decker on the knee caps.

There are two washers in the injectors.

There is a thick ish copper one, that sits around the end of the wider bit of the injector.

AND, much more importantly there is a wee crinkly one that sits arouns the very end of the injector - these, so i am rewliably told by several people, MUST be replaced of the injectors are removed - they are crushed when you fit the injectors and once crushed they are no good to re-use, as they take away heat from the tips of the injectors. If there aint a good thermal contact, the injector tips will burn away and overheat.

If you need spare injectors, I have some for the 12/19J... And POS, from what I gathered I would suggest you pop some new crinkle washers in them!

I'll have a look, but I honestly don't think that there is anywhere for a crimp / crinkling washer to fit on either the injector point or in its slot in the head! It's only a two minute job to have them out though so I'll check this weekend.

If you want, and can give me a day or two, i can get some pictures 4 ya, of where they go etc.

Sure no problem, and it would be much appreciated if you have the time! I wont be checking them until Sunday or Monday anyway.

Cheers Boydy

thats the injectors pressure tested and they were fine , so jist a matter of gettin the copper washers oot their holes

Why dont you just stick em back in without new washers, I've had injectors out many a time and never fitted new washers, any leak they might have will soon carbon up.

i was told it was important for the thermals of it, rather than just leaks.

If they are in there then they are unlikely to be squished away to nothing, the only issues I have ever seen is people taking injectors out and not noticing that the washer is on the injector, and fitting it with two.

The truck ones have an "o" ring to keep the water in and I always replace that but dont bother with the copper ones. Lets face it the tips never burnt off with the whats in, but I have never heard of tips burning off anyway, part of the injector tip sits right in the combustion chamber and it dont burn off, you could get the injector carboning in if it was sealed badly, but I doubt it. I have fitted dozens of the things without new washers.

But it's your call, if you can get them out I guess.

had one injector badly carboned up with an oily deposit on the rest of the tip , the other three were fine , jist got new washers to , so will try an get the old ones oot and change them over.

Sure the injector was tested properly, coz badly carboned up could be a dribbly injector, if it were the engine burning oil in that cylinder then the valves would be carboned as well.

Sometimes the injector leaves a patch of carbon in the area close to where it sits on the piston, it will be obvious from the other pistons. If it is a dribbler then the carbon builds up on the piston it causes overheating and thermal cracking of the piston.

Just a thought.
