had new seals and washers fitted, drove car this morning about 8 miles car lost all power and coasted to a hault, car would not fire at all at first, then started, lots of white smoke then nothing,
are the seal not seated properly, injector etc, all answers gratefully appreciated,

had to tow car in, going to have a look in the morning,

it sounds like the seals and washers havent been fitted properly, the injector seats need to be spotlessly clean otherwise they wont seal, and using genuine seals and washers makes a difference

genuine seals and washers were fitted, but with one leaking would it make the car cut out?, basically 60mph to nothing, coasted to a halt!

got it all stripped out today, new seals and washers again monday!

will have a good look at the head, i hope no damage!!!

I always use an injector seating tool to clean seats in head.
I also re check the torque on all injectors after fitting last one as the soft copper washers settle and torque is to slack.
Also grease the o rings well.

I did my first Disco twice before I got it right I might be over cautious now, but last two I've done have been fine.

can you hear the fuel pump running with the key in pos2

yes you can hear fuel pump running,

thing is? will it of done any damage to the head, as when trying to start car , sometimes it wouldn't even turn over, as tight sort of compression, whether bore was full of diesel? but pump running great,

have found out since that landrover have a sleeve to use when they do it, i know you wouldn't really need one,

will have another go monday

after tightening injectors until they bottom out did you then back them off 360 degrees, if so then shouldnt of damaged anything

after seals were done, test drove, all ok! checked everything, leaks etc ok, put engine cover back on, thought job done, ok!!! :)

drove friday night to walk dog around 3 mile journey all ok,
sat morning going on a 10 mile trip, 8 mile into it died:eek:
then would not start first, when it did, white smoke everywhere, limped 200yrds to get it parked safer than it was, wouldn't start after that, dipped oil found fuel in it,, Had to be towed in by a TOYOTA pickup, couldn't be bothered with recovery as too near home,
basically that is that!
but just wondering about the head!
don't think there was a problem with the injector seals, but car when it starts take 10secs to get to full power, so a process of eliminating everything to get to the problem, working way back to the tank, :(

what symptoms/reasons where there to change the washers and seals

there is this lack of power from start up, starts ok, tick over, but you cannot get full power unless you wait 10sec or so,
only had car since late sept, 100k, so trying to fault find!
de egr, new waste gate module, new harness, just trying to work out this flat spot!

update, new seals fitted again, all ok this time! cannot see anything wrong with the others,
cars!!!
new MAF sensor fitted too, genuine land rover, old 1 showed no change in readings, new 1 shows the correct measurements,
but still we have this 10sec delay!!

there is always a small delay on start up of a td5 as the 5th cylinder has no glow plug so takes a second or two to catch up, but 10secs is to long, do you mean you press accelerator then the power comes after 10 secs, and is it manual or auto

yeh, 10 secs on the pedal, car is a manual, now this is the forth td5 i have had, so no real stranger!!( gluten for punishment)

no diesel leaks at the fuel regulator, engine is clean and dry, just think this is a process of elimination, sort of got used to it, but it does pi** you off especially if you get straight in start her up and try to move off on a hill start, luckily! enough low down torque to not stall
