hello all

i have been working really hard to try and get my series 3 landy to work properly after a fall rebuild i found out that i had the fitted the vertical cog that funs from the crankshaft was fitted 180' out witch made the engine over heat and blow that head gasket i have just changed the gasket but still cant get the engine to run with out smoke it is either white smoke or dark black depending where the pump is positioned

getting to the point i need to get hold of an injector pump Timing Gauge P/N 605863 so i can set the pump up right i have found one for £150 but that seems expensive for a tool i will only use once so dues anyone no where i could rent one or get one for a reasonable price

the pump has a window in the side, remover the cover plate and use a mirror to see the timing marks, these are set when the pump is made or overhauld, if the marks are a long whey out then move the timing gear a bit at a time, you may have to remove the sump to move the oil pump,

From memory there are marks on the arbor as mentioned, you can advance or retard the timing a little with these, however the arbor itself is removeable seperately from the engine block, the tool photo you posted is to align the arbor.
If you only removed the pump and not the arbor then you shouldnt need that tool, unless you suspect the timing is still out.
There is an old timer method of setting the timing with a gooseneck and a dial guage that doesnt need any special tools that mi dad used to do, but I dont know how to do that.
