injection pump running help needed

could someone with a discovery 300tdi auto discovery please help
when the ignition is switched on ,but not started does the injection pump run and continue to run all the time ?

it would only take 2 minites to listen to the pump

injection pump wont run till engine turned ,it will set it self for starting

No they dont actually run but do make a high speed ticking noise almost non stop with the ignition on.

thanks lynall that was the answer I was hoping for ,the ticking noise ,I should have worded it different I know the pump won't run unless the engine is running
