Injection Pump Lucas CAV

I've got a Series 2a Project and init is a 2.5n/a

We towed this landy and it ran.
Since it went into the garage it as been re-wired and new stop solenoid(of concern for this thread).
Engine wouldn't start off the key so since then I have change the fuel lines (they had been cut and bodged together), new fuel filter & flushed the tank. Currently fuel lines are into a plastic canas main tak is away for repairs.
Blead the filter, and 2 vent screws on injection pump - all ok, but no fuel will come out of the injector pipes.

Is my Lucas CAV injection pump knackered?

I found this, so when wheels are back on & fuel tank present....



The easyest way of starting the engine is to get a tow from a mate with another truck and a very hefty tow rope. Just leave it in gear and the ignition on and the air will be forced out of the pump and injectors and it will start, even without glow plugs.

Forget trying to bleed by hand, its a wrist breaker and a pretty poor way of bleeding the pump and injectors.

You can check your plugs by checking you get 12 volts supplied to them when you press the button down. Once you've got a tow start( and bled the fuel lines doing so) let it run and warm up. Once you know its going to run without cutting out, turn off and let it cool down a bit, then try firing up using the glow plugs.

check solenoid is working with ignition on pull wire on and off solenoid see if it clicks ,we have had some of these pumps that are worn enough inside that they will no longer start under cranking speeds but will if towed (engine bee turned over faster )only fix if this is the case is either another pump or reconing yours

Hoping to trying a pull this weekend to see if she will run & then try off the button.
That depends on the 24hr deliveryof a new tank.

I can I tell if it is a 12, 14, or 15J

Back to the issue of my 2.5na not starting.
Series2a is near complete rebuild and axle's are back on.
At some point I got the Landy to start off the key so it is possible, but next day it wouldn't. Leaking diesel / air entering system. Found the cause to be the cold start screw. I found a post of chap who made one with a dremmel, and likewise I too have done this.
I can start the engine if I tow it, but it does need throttle. However it won't sit and idle.
I have adjusted the idle screw (spring return lever on fuel return) but no result, it stops dead. So I guess this is why it won't start on the key.

I'm starting to think it's my cold start screw. Either it's not right or not adjusted.

Fuel lines are clear and no air bubbles seen in the system.

Part of the cold start mechanism had popped out. Luckily I had found it onthe workshop floor and kept this small piece of shiney metal, no idea what is for where it had come from. And guess what away she goes
