The use of asbestos wasn’t fully banned in the UK until 1999, so there is a possibility of its presence in your vehicle somewhere, hence the warning label. It doesn’t mean it’s in the bonnet liner specifically though !! Now that you have raised the spectre of asbestos, how you proceed is up to you !! In the building industry, no work is carried out until a survey for asbestos presence has been done. If it is found, or even suspected to be present, all work stops until it is tested/sealed/removed etc by licensed operators.

my 110 was registered in 1990 but had a 2.5 turbo diesel (bought cheap just before the new reg came out i expect)
it had the same bonnet insulation which was manky so when i bought it i just took off bagged it up and binned at the tip
take the label and do the same would be my advice with it

Mine has the same insulation as well. It’s 1989 90. I plan to fit new sound deadening soon and it will be getting binned the same as yours.

@v8250 uses some good stuff… sure he will provide some photos/info.

Me I don’t worry about the noise I don’t have a radio to turn up

Hi Phil / @--ped-- ,

I have used a mixture of Dynamat & Silentcoat. Dynamat under the bonnet, internal footwells, floor, gearbox tunnel, seat box and behind the seat bulkhead. Silentcoat inside the three doors which is very effective. I've also added a 10mm layer of self-adhesive neoprene closed cell foam to the footwells and floors for comfort, noise reduction and heat retention [I do have full carpet set to the cockpit]. Combined it makes a tremendous difference and have been told the Ninety is the quietist others have ridden in.

But there's a note to this, the Ninety is a soft top and soft tops are far quieter than hardtops as they do not suffer the tinny reverberation experienced with hardtop LR's. There are plenty of good videos on how to soundproof a hardtop on YouTube...it's ever-so easy to do.

I did think about using Silentcoat to the rear bench seats and tub floor area but rarely have folk travel in the rear and, after all, it's but a Land Rover that gets used for loading and lugging all sorts so have not done this. This coming winter I'll add cut to size horse matting and make a waxed up duck board for the tub.

A note on pricing...sound deadening can be very expensive so I searched/waited until I could find the kits on special offer, saving some 40% off RRP.

Silentcoat or DoDo mat are excellent for getting rid of the 'dwang', like @v8250 i've also treated my 90 in a similar fashion.
I also coated the rear tub with 4mm Silentcoat + the 6mm closed foam on the floors/bulkead and it makes a huge difference.

Here's what I did under the bonnet (kits out of stock at the moment).

The grill surround will be from a defender [ or has sticker changed] A Land Rover Ninety has "NINETY" where yours has DEFENDER. It is just rockwool in the bonnet insulation. Previous models did not have this, just someone's add on in your truck.
Everything under the bonnet says Land Rover Ninety 19j.
What is more important now is the condition of chassis, bulkhead.
