Well i have a 4.0 Se Rangie 1998, every saturday or sunday without fail, I make sure that i open the hood and check for oil levels, leakages, topping up the coolant and stuff, but it would be helpful if someone can guide me to a few queries that i have

My questions are -
1- Currently my cooling system resorvior has pink coolant, what is the difference between pink and blue, what is the exact amount of dilutation or ratio that i should use and what is the best brand to use as coolant.

2- What are the essential checks to be done on weekly and monthly bases

thanks

question 1 i think the colour is just different colour/brands of antifreeze/coolant.Also the blend should be a minimum of 50% anti freeze in the 3.9 so would preseume thats the same for the 4.0
question 2 haynes will have a weekly monthly and yearly guide in em.

I think the pink coolant is a summer cooland and the blue is a winter coolant

A summer anti freeze ? - that'll be useful then !
Pink stuff is called OAT (organic acid technology) - simply means it lasts a lot longer than the blue stuff and only needs changing about every 5 years
The blue stuff needs changing every year to do it's job right
50/50 mix all year round is the way to go ona V8 - its not just the anti freezing part that's important, they both also contain corrosion inhibitors
You can mix the two but adding blue to pink will not only give you a horrible colour of anti freeze but will lessen the length of time before it needs changing

thanks guys, is there any good brand of anti freeze to consider. And if i need to flush the existing fluid and pour the new one, how do i do that.. is there a way to flush the existing one.
thanks

Don't forget as V8Kenny says.....make sure it is suitable for mixed metal engines and contains corrosion inhibitors....

The Buick derived Rover V8 uses both aluminium and Steel/iron parts which will react and cause real bad corrosion if the right stuff isn't used.

All the best.
Anthony.

I use Halfords 'advanced' antifreeze in mine. It's pink and like Kenny said only needs changing every 5 years instead of 2. Bit more expensive but worth it.
