hi all. First post, so I'll make it simple :p

I'm the proud owner of a 1998 P38 DSE, and although I am a fairly proficient hobbyist spannerman I'd like someone with more specialist knowledge of RR's to give my car the full once over, top to tail so to speak - IE, pay them to go through everything with a fine toothcomb, and give me a list of all faults and areas of concern, prioritised!

I'm from Hatfield, Herts, but would travel to Bedfordshire, Essex, rest of Hertfordshire, Buckinghamshire etc to go to somewhere recommended - I'm not loaded by any stretch so need someone I can trust not to rip me off.

Any suggestions from the collective here?

Thanks!

Ross

:nothingtoadd:

Just wanted to say.... :welcome2:

Nice to see someone do a first post respectfully and correctly....

Introduction
Vehcile with year, engine type and etc
Location in post and in the profile page!!
Hinted indication that a sense humour is attached and working
Willing to accept a battering from the 'collective' as he so readily put....

Now all others ....thats how you do a first post - heed well...

Have fun in your new RR, you'll never be without one now....no matter how much you want to tear yer hair out over them!!!

Thanks for the welcome :)

I'm familiar with forum etiquette thankfully, so did my best! And I do have humour (otherwise I'd not have pulled the trigger on a RR!) so hopefully the ribbing that I'm bound to get here over the coming years won't be too harsh :p

I've already done some simple things but the car really needs some attention from someone who knows what to look for - so... any takers?

There's a local indie near me who advertise, but I won't phone until/unless someone recommends. "Aylmer Motors" is about a mile from my home so would be nice and convenient!

Hi Mate,
Your Just around the corner from me, I think you would be better off getting stuck into the threads on here and learning about your motor, your going to need it at some point, and much cheaper than going to the main stealers, (steer clear of Aylmers in potters bar)
The only danger of reading the posts is of becoming an auto hypercondriact, you'll be convinced your car suffers from all the faults you read about.
The best thing to do IMHO is to tackle each fault as they occur. Welcome to the club give me a toot if you see me driving into KFC or the galleria!

Thanks for the tips - I naturally lurked here for about 2 months before actually registering so I've seen what's what - looks to be a great resource :)

I think I've got a reasonable condition car - I had the machine polisher out on her today (first time for her I'm sure judging by the state of her!) and she scrubs up well - I just need some advice on what's urgent mechanically.

Here she is:

Hi

Rogers of Bedford have always been very useful but seem to have less knowledge of the BMW DSE and P38 electrics. Good for all LR related repairs...and fantastic if you have a disco or defender.

Autoland 4x4 Houghton Regis are good to but always seem to be busy. Ashcroft Transmissions in Dunstable are unbeatable for all transmission stuff...very good.

Vogue Autos - Ruislip - specialise in RR and P38....not used before but been past a few times and looks fairly busy.

Then there's me :D in Denham if you ever need someone to share a tea with!

Thanks for the tips... They are dead cheap, at least compare to Japan.. £750 for a rebuild... While here only ZF does it and it will cost me £3500... So I even if I have to pay £1000 for shipping + rebuilt + Installation in Japan... I am still saving some money! I just sent them an email and I will see... Now the problem is how I will leave with a P38 without its Gearbox while they repair it??
