dear all,

have a look at the attached Range Rover based on your wise judgement is it worth restoring and turn it into something like the camel trophy version? Main question here is, this is a really run down car and here are my plans.
1. this is a petrol engine, i plan to have it run on a 300tdi
2. remove all fancy standard suspension and get some really good quality Bilstein (or watever) suspensions.

My intention for this car is to have it run on minimum RANGE ROVER parts to bring down the running cost and hopefully bring up the reliability. With this in mind I want to strip it of all fancy toys.

What is your take guys?

Sadly it’s not free... I forgot to mention that I’m outside of the UK - Malaysia to be exact and for some reason they tend to bring in petrol Rover. A diesel powered LR is a rare find here.

So lets say this is the best option that I can have for now is it worth while to strip it of its fancy stuff and let it run bare e.g. the electronics and stuff.

Petrol is cheap in Malaysia anyway isn't it? So the idea of keeping the V8 is good advice.

If it's okay bodywise, i.e. not rusted in the usual spots (rear wheel arches, sills, boot floor) then I'd say you have a chance.

I'm all for restorations, it is a classic after all, as long as you're not in it to make any money!

Those NAS style indicator/side lights are still available in the USA, about $95 each though.
