Ok so i use a steering bar which I hear is useless, so I'm looking for a disklock in the new year.. I also use a pedal lock and for anyone on landywatch on Facebook will see that several have gone lately. Including one with a pedal lock that they actually hacksawed the pedal off...

Mine is boxed in currently on the garden next to my kids playhouse in an awkward place then my mates 90 and my disco are blocking it
..

However id like to install an electric shut off switch (one of those little isolator switches) in line. I'm not sure what's the best way though. Could anyone pm me a crafty way to do it that could help please?
 
What size steering wheel do you have?

Disclok is superb! Wouldn't be without it. Make sure you turn wheel completely to one side before removing keys (just another issue for someone trying to nick it)

One of the covers that cover all the pedals is also good.

Any electrical immobiliser isn't much good with a landy 300TDi as it only needs one electrical connection to un-immobilise it. I have a fuel solenoid in line which will further slow a thief down but if they tow it away on rear wheels everything mentioned is pretty pointless..... Giant rabid Rottweiler roaming around your car might be a good idea :D
 
might make my two kids sleep in the 90, they wont take it then.... haha..

its a small steering wheel but disk lock will make me have to remove my lazy ball thing that i turn easy with haha :(

Its nearly at an agreed valuation with the insurance company for more than market value so atleast if it goes ill get paid out, still wont cover the man hours spent on it this year



Its a 200tdi and i think I'm gonna get a fuel shut off thing that i can hide in line which will only let it be drove so far before cutting out, that way if some1 does drive it they might ditch it down the road. Just need to figure out how to wire one in and what i need..

To be honest it will barely make a difference. Only really any good if hooked up to the alarm.

I have a spare disclok here that's too small for a defender's normal steering wheel but if it has a smaller one it would possibly fit.

I agree,
Only two systems to immobilize in a vehicle like this and you can guarantee any would be thief can get around the starter and shut off.
You could look at having another electronic fuel valve fitted hidden along your fuel line but that's about it
 
IMHO you can't stop them being nicked all you can do is make it be such a ball ache that they just move on to the next one that isnt secured as well as yours, but if they want yours then they will take it.

The more the better.
Disklok
Pedal lock
Boxed in/parking bollard type thing if you can
Chain it down
Etched windows and main components
Motion sensor floodlight +/- CCTV

I can't be arsed with alarms/electrical stuff ever since I had an all singing all dancing Clifford one that cost about £800 - when it went wrong it literally took the aa man 30seconds to bypass all of it and shut it up. Physical deterrent imo
 
Are the steering bars completely useless? I'm only asking as I am getting a smaller steering wheel at some point, so don't want to waste money on a disklok when I would have to buy another in a couple of months.

I currently have a clutch claw, seems pretty good but a pain to fit every time.
 
There are basically 3 types of car thief.

1. Joyrider. Not too likely to take a defender, and easily put off by almost any device, best if obvious so they haven't broken the window before seeing it.

2. Opportunist. Experienced and know where to sell the car. Will have a few gadgets to hand, and access to more, such as BIG bolt cutters, or battery angle grinders. Make it look like it will take a long time and they will not want to start.

3. Professional "steal-to-order". They will know exactly what they want, as they already have a buyer. If they decide your car is what they want it is pretty impossible to stop them. They will have access to recovery vehicles, possibly even crane lorries capable of lifting it out of your back garden. Best bet here is probably a well-hidden tracking device.

You forgot NO4. Other Landrover owners. Who will know exactly what security devices are fitted and where..
 
Exchange it for a Freelander. Our Freelanders are known to have factory fitted alarms and immobilisers. So it's got less chance of being stolen without the keys or a trailer. ;)

Its got less chance being stolen even with the keys left in the ign. I think thet call it, " the embarrassment factor" So stick a freelander badge on it.:D
 
As previously said, if they want it they will ultimately take it! All you can do is make it as awkward as possible to deter the opportunists. My series 3 has a Hella battery isolator fitted. Remove the key inside the vehicle and it breaks the live feed from the battery to everything else. Not hard to bypass if said scum bags want to lift the bonnet and get covered in grease and crud and copious amounts of 20/50 and EP90 to get to the bulkhead where its fitted! lol
 
My new 110 has been fitted with an alarm and immobiliser. Its pretty good at stopping the car from being driven off.... even by the owner with the key fob. ####ing annoying thing. I'd just use a battery isolator like what is on my 90. It looks as though immobiliser/alarm systems are a bitch to remove.

Your best bet is to stick a dog in the back, preferably a big one that barks.

Ordered a cheap gps tracker today off eblag as well as I've acquired a disklock so if the kids don't behave tomorrow after the fat man's been and delivered all those free presents then they will be living in my 90....
