Hi all,

Just visited a main dealer (needed a new key for my Disco II.. so little choice).. they wanted it for the whole day, because there were 2 outstanding recalls due.. no cost to me, so I didn't question.
When I got it back, the "S" and "M" were flashing (Prob with the gearbox?), but the dealer took a look and they disappeared after starting her up a couple of times, drove fine.. so took it away.
Drove it for the first time today and now the TC, ABS & Hill Dcnt all came on at the same time..(3 amigos) again seems to drive OK, but clearly the dealer's messed something up.
Just spoken to them, they're going to take a look next week, they said the 2 recalls were 158 & 169, something to do with the tow-bar & replaced some plate?!.. (anyone know what these recalls really are?).. I want to go armed with some theory on what they've done.. cause I'm anticipating the old "... can't have been anything we did.. nowhere near those systems etc.."

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.. Cheers!

Hmm I also had a recall on my 2004 td5 from stratstone in Bury about 6 to 8 months ago for a softwear update, After waiting for about 2 hours i eventually got my car back with an estimate for a oil leak and a fuel leak which it did not have before. When i got home and parked on my drive I had a look under and sure enough It had developed the 2 leaks. 3 weeks later I got a phone call from them asking if I wanted to have the work done so I questioned about the update as nothing was mentioned about it after being updated the lady checked the computer and told me the update had be successfull and now has the latest softwear installed then I asked about the sudden leaks but she said she only knows what it says on the computer. 3 weeks ago I had a remap done and as it was being done I mentioned about the softwear update and he told me that he is not aware of an update for the TD5 so he checked to see if there was a update on it and surprise surprise the softwear for my car was installed in november 2003 and no sign of an update so I am now thinking that they were short of work so they invented this update **** and sabotaged my car the F***ing B***ards

You Know you can never trust garages, they will rip you off if they possible can its the nature of the beast.
If you find a garage you can trust stick to them.I travel over thirty miles to my garage and I believe every word Mike says. John Dandy Motors in Gloucester

If they've had a diagnostic machine attached to the car, without a battery charger connected, the battery could have been a bit low. Add that to the drain of starting the motor and the voltage to the autobox ecu could have been low, causing the fault lights.

If I were you I would be putting the battery on charge overnight just to eliminate this possible cause.

Little update for you all..

Got it back from the dealer today.. I managed to find out what recall 169 was (you can get the recalls for your car from the AAs website would you believe..), unsurprinsingly it was a recall on the ABS module, armed with that little fact, the dealer didn't suggest it couldn't be their fault.

Picked it up and was told that they couldn't find anything wrong, say it may have been an old fault code which resurfaced when they updated the software.. they'd taken it out for a long test drive.. no probs. I drive it away, 15 mins later ABS and TC comes back on, phoned the dealer back, and they're gonna take another look, but the guy seemed a bit suspicious of me?!.. the lights have since gone back out, but obviously something's up and I want it sorted.

Hand on heart, I had no problems before they did these "recalls".. which I never asked for.. any suggestions of how I should be prepping for a fight?.. I have this horrible feeling that they're going to leave me with these faults, saying it wasn't anything they did..

Starting to get a little annoyed..

Fantastic... Get a call from the dealer "Intermittent fault with one of the ABS sensors"..

As expected they claimed it was nothing they did, they were nowhere near those parts etc..they've replaced it and it's cost me £150, they way I see it, that's £150 paid for a lesson which I already knew. Don't go to Main Stealers!!
