Hi, new to this so apologies if it has come up....I often tow a horse trailer, mostly with 1 horse, sometimes with 2. The bottom end torque on my '06 TD4 is pretty dire, involving clutch slip and quite high revs at low speed to get going and then to accelerate from low speeds. Anyone got any ideas...maybe re-mapping? Not sure what that involves). Thanks

fit one of these .. an egr delete / bypass :

and install a RonBox 2a or 2e :
Tuning-diesels - low cost diesel tuning

( quite a few ppl here have gone for the 'ronbox'
( do a site search for 'synergy 2a'

or .. instead of the ronbox ( or similar )

maybe re-mapping? Not sure what that involves.

involves reprogramming the ecu ..
some do it *'live' .. .. some don't ..
*i.e. techies put the vehicle on a 4by4 rolling road .. run some tests ..
then remap the ecu ..

hardest part .. probably choosing where to go to get it done ..
( google search 'freelander 1 td4 remap' )

Removing the cat and fitting a free flowing back box will help the turbo spool up at lower revs, couple that with a re-map should show a marked improvement.

Hi everyone, thanks for the helpful suggestions...not least the ronbox which I'll investigate....
