Immobilser Fooked? Help Pretty Please!!!!!!

This is my first post here and, as is usually the case, it's because i have a problem!

My vehicle is a five door 1999 Freelander 1800 Petrol (XEi, I think)

My Freelander has always started on the button first turn, no matter what! Until this morning when I needed to go out!

Yesterday afternoon I had a new windscreen fittted by Autoglass, and this morning was the first time I tried to start the car - but it wouldn't!

Thought perhaps the fob needed re-syncing so did the pressy buttons five times thingy and all the doors locks started going haywire. So disconnected the battery and left it for a while and tried again. Still odd whirry clicky noises coming from all the doors!

Anyhoo, eventually got the fob and doors working correctly, but still no starting, engine just turns over with no sign of firing at all!

I think that the Autoglass chap may have cocked up the immobiliser somehow. I've been back in touch with them and someone is going to come out Monday! However, this is a bit late for me and I want to be sure that this is not just coincidence and in fact something else has just broken (don't want to end up with bill from them, if it turns out not to be their fault).

So now the doors appear to lock/unlock correctly and the dash LED for the alarm/imobiliser flahes rapidly on locking for a few seconds then slows to a steady flash, which from memory is normal and how it used to be.

However, when I unlock the car and get in to start it, there is no LED activity at all, not even when you insert/turn the key or if you just sit there and wait. Which i think is different to how it use to work. I seem to remember it flashing at you rapidly until you started the car or if you left it it would time out and return to slower regular flashing. But, I could be wrong!

Also, it sounds like the door locks are trying to operate when the key is turned to position II.

I have checked my fobs, both have recent batteries, both used to work and both still appear to!

Does this sound like an immobiliser issue or does anyone have any other ideas/troubleshooting advice?

I'm really quite desperate so any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

if the light is out when the key is turned the imob has been deactivated. If it stays solid red it is immobilised.

Try pressing the fuel cut off switch in the engine bay.

is the fuel pump priming when you turn the ignition on?

Lol, I just caught the post by Mr C (I think) and tried resetting the Inertia Fuel Cut Off Switch.

Presto it lives again. No thanks to the ham fisted Autoglass technician that knocked it in the first place!

When you turn they key in the ignition if the red immobiliser light goes out then the immobiliser is ok. If it stays on then you have an immob fault. I had the same problem with mine. Also, if you hear a beeping noise when you press the keyfob, this means that the batteries need replacing in the keyfob.
I changed the ignition rotary switch and it cured the problem for a while and then I got the intermittant starting problems again. I broke open the old ignition switch and the contacts were burnt a bit. I put a new starter relay in, but in the end the problem was the starter motor soleniod. I replaced the starter complete and that cured it. If the problem has started since you had the screen changed, then whoever changed it may have knocked a plug off etc. somewhere in the process and that could be the problem if it was working fine before.

Screen fitters often use a rubber hammer round the edge to get the seals back in, this is probably what tripped the inertia switch.
