I thought I was finished with this problem last year when I fitted the spider by-pass plug thing and got the remote re-programmed. Anyway went over a pot hole and the hazards came on while still driving thankfully not far from home and when I parked turned the ignition off and back on everything was fine - great!

No! When I try to start the alarm goes off but now it just chirps away. The remote seems to have little effect. I hear a clicking coming from the glove compartment think this is the green immobiliser box of tricks. Im guessing its down to a loose connection? but where to start looking mechanics im good with but terrible with electrics. Any help would be great as I thought the by-pass put an end to all this plus im having to use the missus Disco 3 and iv always banged on about how much better the old 300tdi was ow she is showing me up. Away out to have another play hope help is out there.

I can't see what part the immobiliser is playing, u don't say you can't start the engine.

The green ECU is the alarm/central locking control unit the immobiliser ECU is behind the dash.
You hazards activating because you hit a pot hole is because u activated an interia sensor that would also have unlocked the doors, if they had been locked, re-setting is what u did with the ignition switch.

If your "terrible with electrics" then perhaps u should get an auto electrican to check over you security system. What checks have you made sofar?

I cant start the car nothing happens at all when I turn the key. Tried to reset the immobiliser doing the key in the drivers door but its not working.

The alarms doesn't full go off, it just chirps and bleeps with lots of clicking from the green box in the passenger foot well.

Try a reset of the ECU by disconnecting the vehicle battery or simply pulling the alarm system fuse. Then sync the fob by pressing the lock button 4 times. Worth a try maybe.

The code entered via the door lock won't work now because you don't have an immobiliser you have bypassed it.
I'd start else where for a reasion why the engine dosn't crank.

Tried the batter disconnect and still nothing just starts clicking again when I connect it back up. No joy with the key fob sync either.

well on closer instigation turned out to be a corroded earth connection on the chassis. Well that was a quick fix for a change!

I had trouble a couple of years back with the immobiliser coming on without being set, the problem appeared to be the soldered joints where the immobiliser module was fitted into the vehicle wiring loom. I remade all the joints and the problem disappeared until a couple of months ago. Part of the wiring installed with the immobiliser module is a 5amp inline fuse spliced into a wire from the ignition switch to the immobiliser module which I guess is the power feed for the unit. I have traced every wire from the module which is sited behind a trim cover on the right of the driver under the dash. Nearly all the wires go to circuits associated with the ignition switch, LED and jack socket in the cowling under the steering wheel except two that go direct to the engine bay in the fuel pump area.

The problem was first discovered when the car wouldn't start and on inspection I noticed the LED on the steering column cowl was not flashing. A check of all the wiring under the cowl showed no loose or broken joints but wiggling the 5 amp fuse fixed it. Got a new fuse holder and soldered into the circuit, problem solved or so I thought. Now the supply via this fuse just goes without warning and the engine cuts out and to restore things to normal I take out the fuse put it back and everything works. I assume the immobiliser is cutting the circuit to the fuel pump solenoid which is why the engine dies but the same process also turns of the entire system.

The fuse holder was one I got with a car radio kit and wonder if it's up to the task. I have considered the jack socket on the steering column but cannot see how since the problem appears to be power to the module and there is no power to any terminal on this socket, I'm guessing this provides a trip function to start a timer allowing the starter solenoid to be operated.

I am thinking of removing the immobiliser system and installing another proprietary off the shelf system. Has anyone done this?

All assistance greatly received.
