Evening,

My 1986 N/A 90 has always seeped a bit of oil out of the oil filler cap, especially when it has been pushed really hard at high revs up a big hill. Anyways, I took it for quite a run today and thought I'd give it a bit of a blast down a hill. Got home, opened the bonet up and there was a massive spill of oil out of the filler cap. Is this usual? If not, what is it a sign of?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Blocked breather pipe, Blocked oil pickup filter (In Sump) Worn piston rings

Thanks Redhand...

The breather pipe definitely isn't blocked, I blew down it a couple of weeks ago to check. Could well be the pickup filter (I've never heard of that before), and quite possibly piston rings. It has a new set of piston rings on one cylinder, the garage (land rover specialist) replaced a whole piston for me, so I would have thought they might have checked the others, they're not slackers!

one piston?? time you found another garage

well they may well have done that then. They bored the cylinder out and put a whole new piston in for me under warranty, so I think that they will have done that too?

They put a new filler cap in too so the rubbers are new

you can't beat a well balanced injun

putting a new oversized piston & new rings in wouldn't throw ur injun out of balance tho wud it????????

Oh bollix some fecking pigs just flown over an **** on the roses.

Any how the easiest way to check for excess crankcase pressure is to take the filler cap off with the engine running and put the palm of yer hand over the opening, If you can feel a fanny fart of air on your hand then all is OK. If you feel a mingsdorisaloo full blown bust yer sphincter blast and theres oil behind your retinas then you need to get the other pistons replaced.

Cheers Grunt hehe!

Just out of interest, how much is it likely to cost to get the other two pistons changed all in?

Cheers

i have a 2.5 n/a, they did a pressure test in front of me, asked me to help! And then showed me that one of the readings was a lot lower than the other 3. The other 3 were all within a slight margin of one another, if not the same. They replaced the piston with ****e compression.
