Hi chaps!

So, as some of you may remember just under 2 years ago I sold my P38 DHSE as being a student I didn't spend enough time at home to look after her. If anyone's interested I'm about to start my 4th and final year, am doing well and still having a great time :)

But... I went to help at the open days for 3 days and when I got back my dad had bought another P38... Cue immediate joy mixed with fury for the return of my favourite car but not being consulted on the purchase of the vehicle I know more about than any other! However it turns out after a thorough scrutiny that he's actually done very well it seems :) The previous owner clearly had too much cash or too little skill because almost everything important has been done recently by a land rover garage: EAS, brakes, exhaust, gaskets, tyres, cooling system etc

Gripes...
It's a 4.0... I can forgive this with difficulty given that my dad wants it as a tow car for the summer only and then to sell it again so hopefully the fuel bill and inevitable breakage won't be too bad. The underside is not oil free but given the latest LR service has a note saying it's OK it's hopefully OK...

RF receiver... could have bargained £200 of the price for that... as it is I'm settling for the unplugged aerial; unless there's been a new development in the last couple of years those things would be a quarter of the cost of the car.. nope.

But other than that... it's good to be back :) I'll pop some pictures up when I finish installing my phone; brick doesn't have camera :p

Welcome home.

GEMS or THOR?

LPG the beast and keep her forever!

Remember, the V8 is supposed to leak oil. It's to do with the Leyland anti corrosion warranty or something. I've replaced all the seals I can find on mine, and it still leaks a bit!

I have absolutely no idea :p how do you tell? The engine looked a bit different from the 3.9i on our discovery back in the day, does that help?
Yeah I know! My diesel never leaked though haha
Also, the throttle is MUCH stiffer than on the diesel, is that normal? The diesel's is really floppy with long travel is this pretty firm (works fine)

LPG... possible... depends if anything has gone wrong in a couple of months! Drilling holes in the cylinders or whatever it was you showed me is a little out of my comfort zone :p

Thor is the latter type, with what lloks like a bunch of bananas on top of the engine.

GEMS is the earlier version and has a square plenum with 4.0 stamped on the top of it.

I've never done a side by side comparison, but my throttle isn't stiff. It might just need an oil.

You don't have to drill holes for LPG. You can just put a mixer after the air intake and do it that way.

Lets wait and see how reliable she is first though eh?

Must be Thor, she's a 2001 model, been doing well so far although city economy of 13mpg makes me weep :p

I was thinking since the throttle is mechanical it might just need oiling.
Hmmm that sounds much easier, but yes we'll see if there cooling system explodes or something first! I'll be looking up Datatek's fan mod pretty soon!

Only applicable as a backup to the viscous on the gas guzzler:)

Chrome handles? Nice tyres.

What's the interior like?

The chrome is hideous imo but there we go. Yes I said that, they're Pirellis, I'm impressed
Interior pics will follow (phone crashed after that photo...) but is pretty nice; less equipment than before but everything in it (except the heated seats obviously) works, which is good :)

Going to lubricate the throttle linkage tomorrow (it begins already :p ) following a thread on RangeRovers.net, hopefully that'll make my right foot less tired!

I think on the 4.0 it is a binary throttle. You're either braking or mashing your foot into the Axminster.

Quite smooth and progressive on mine!

I'd have thought given that it's just a wire that should be the case, I think the end is just stiff; I cannot find throttle lubrication in Rave, any tips on lubricant or method, or page number if I'm just missing it? (I won't use WD40 ;) )
